Tuojiang River

The Tuojiang River is located in Fenghuang County, Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Hunan Province, and is the mother river of Fenghuang Ancient Town. The clear, emerald green river winds through the town, with traditional wooden stilt houses of the Tujia ethnic group, some over a hundred years old, densely lining its banks. On the south bank of the river is the ancient city wall, built with purple-red sandstone, which has withstood the test of time, elegant yet majestic. The entire river and the rustic buildings on both banks complement each other, painting a beautiful ink wash scroll with strong Xiangxi characteristics.

Strolling along both banks of the Tuojiang River, you can sequentially visit classic cultural landscapes such as Wanshou Palace, Wanming Pagoda, and Duocui Tower. Among them, the "Jumping Rocks" near the North Gate are not only a main passage for entering and exiting the ancient town but also an excellent spot for many photography enthusiasts to capture the misty morning vapor of the Tuojiang River and the beautiful scenery on both banks. The most authentic way to experience the Tuojiang River is to take a leisurely boat ride on an antique Wupeng boat. During the day, as you drift downstream, you can leisurely admire the buildings on both banks and the Hongqiao Wind and Rain Bridge spanning the river up close.
