Guide
The Dazhao Temple in the center of Hohhot was presided over and built by Alatan Khan, the leader of the Mongol Tumet tribe during the Ming Dynasty, in the eighth year of Wanli (1580). The temple belongs to the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism. The silver Buddha, dragon carvings, and murals are a must-see when visiting Dazhao Temple. In the main hall of the temple, you can see a "Sakyamuni statue" cast from 30,000 taels of silver. In front of the silver Buddha, there are two golden dragons carved on two pillars, which are the dragon carvings. The murals on the walls of the sutra halls and Buddha halls, because they used mineral pigments, have not faded to this day. The content of the murals comes from classic stories in Buddhism.
