What To Expect

Any visit to New Zealand isn't complete without experiencing the local culture, and the Whakarewarewa Village is New Zealand's only true living Maori village. With over five generations having lived here, you'll learn about the fascinating use of the geothermal valley in their day to day lives. From bathing to cooking and heating their homes, the geothermal wonders aren't just a spectacular sight. Whakarewarewa Village is also home to the famous Pohutu and Prince of Wales Feathers geysers, so keep an eye out to watch them burst with plumes of steam. Make sure to catch the Maori Cultural Performance Show, where you can witness the powerful and sacred Haka as well as stories, song and dance that play an important role in the Maori culture.

Nice place with both geo thermal area and real village. Recommend to walk the track. It takes around 30 mins.

We had a wander full tour. The guide was funny with a lot off knowledge. It was very organized and the people there are very friendly. I deeply recommend.

Had a bit of trouble at check-in, when the receptionist said our ticket indicated in their system was that we had to "pay-on-arrival" although we had already made payment via Klook. Pulled out a proof of payment, which resolved the matter. Not sure if this was an error on Klook's side or the vendor's side. The tour itself was an absolute delight. It's so interesting to learn about this proud group of people, with such a rich history, and to learn it from people who are actually still living in this village boosted the authenticity level of this tour. I'm actually jealous that I'm not Maori! The lunch at the cafe was alright, pretty bland. The cultural show itself was done indoors, not sure why since they had a more picturesque outdoor venue. Perhaps because it was cold? Still enjoyed it though, had chills run down as the Maori performed their Haka.

The village is quiet and most looks forward to the Maori performance. The performance is very exciting. However, if you only visit the village and the performances, you can actually not buy tickets unless you want to participate in guided tours.

The whole geothermal village is filled with white water vapor, exudes a unique taste of sulfur. Curious is always thought that the water in the geothermal area will be yellow, and here is very bright blue and green very nice. Here also saw the original Maori culture, is worth a trip.

The tour time is a little short, if you can lengthen a little believe that there will be a better experience!
