Dongba script is the only pictographic writing system still in use in the world. Under the guidance of Dongba cultural inheritors, you can learn to write your own Dongba name or experience the ancient craft of Dongba paper making. Through each stroke, feel the unique understanding of the world by the Naxi ancestors. In the courtyard of the intangible cultural heritage inheritor He Lin-yi, listen to a performance of Baisha Xile (Baisha Ancient Music) played by his family. This ancient classical music of the Naxi people, with its melodious string and wind instruments, will instantly immerse you in a historical atmosphere. Local villagers hold hands and, accompanied by the singing of “Alili” and flute music, dance the Naxi traditional “Datiao” dance around a bonfire (if the weather is not too hot for a bonfire). The infectiousness of this collective dance is the highlight of the immersive experience.
