Reviews
Naho was super helpful; from the start she greeted me downstairs, guiding me to her studio and showed me introductory videos on the art of kumiko, as well as the artisan who designed and crafted the pieces needed for this class. I was able to choose which style of kumiko I wanted to make. I chose the sesame/turtle design, which took about 50 mins to complete. I liked my finished piece! :)
I had a very enjoyable experience. The thrill of wondering if it would break or not, and the satisfying feeling when it fit perfectly without breaking, was great. Once I got a slight feel for how it fit together, it became even more fun. I'm also grateful that there are artisans who assemble these pieces. I hope this Japanese cultural tradition never disappears.
