What To Expect

Travel 130 kilometres away from Hanoi and discover the quaint rural district of Mai Chau in Hoa Binh province. The village is well-known among visitors for its stilt houses or pile dwellings, made of bamboo and timber. The houses are elevated up to 12 feet above the ground to avoid water damage, protecting its residents from the harsh elements. The village is surrounded by green rice fields, valleys and hills and this lets you fully indulge in the natural beauty of Vietnamese countryside. Travel along Thung Khe Pass, bike through rice paddy fields and lunch with the White Thai ethnic group. Led by a professional English speaking guide, this tour is a great day trip from Hanoi to discover rural life and expansive nature

The trip is good, with good view of paddy field and villages. Bus ride to Mai Chau is considered bearable. I suggest the operator to take more initiative in contacting participants prior to the activity to inform the pick up time. We contacted Klook twice and have the hotel called the operator to confirm the timing and yet we still waited for 40 min. Another let down is the bicycle rental. Those bikes need serious, serious maintenance. 8 out of 10 bikes are faulty! I don't feel safe at all riding those bicycles.

Our day trip to Mai Chau was memorable and well-organized. Our guide Ling was fun, kind, and flexible to our requests (e.g. paying extra to motorbike instead of bike ride and allowing us to try harvesting rice ourselves). The main event of this trip was going to Mai Chau — to be honest, the village visits were very small and more like rest stops. Expect a calming experience in the rice paddies above all else, and you will not be disappointed.

The worst trip I had in Vietnam. I wrote an email before the day and confirm the pick up time. But no one reply and approach me. On the trip day, the Tour office told me they informed my hotel reception yesterday that I have to go to another place for collecting before 7:10. (The Tour office found me through my whatsapp this morning at 7:17) BUT NO ONE TOLD ME. Anyway I rushed and the people in the office isn’t that polite. And the one day trip is boring, the lunch is worse then I imagined, the only activity is riding bike. Nothing else. The cost is too high for this kind of one day trip. (You only Sitting there and waiting others ) Please don’t go.

Our tour guide didn’t introduce himself to start with and said very little. He didn’t give an ETA to when we would get out break. His instructions were limited on what to do (ie for those staying overnight that they had to check in themselves). The ride out wasn’t worth it for a day trip if the weather isn’t good. It rained hard during our bike ride.

Zero my guide is kind n a responsible person,There this Korean couple who wander off without waiting for him n he was so worried they were get lose or late for the bus, so driving me sight seeing n looking for them at the same time. The travel agency mixed up the date of traveling and failed to pick us up. We waited for 1 hour and half in the cold.

Tour guide was good, foods were delicious and the entire tour was nice. Quite tiring on the cycling, but we enjoyed it. For those who will bring small children who cannot cycle, there were bicycles with child-seat. But be prepared to cycle thru the hill for less than 2 hours :)
