Reviews
I participated in a day trip to Kumamoto's Aso Volcano and Kurokawa Onsen. I was a bit nervous traveling alone, but thanks to our very kind guide, Mr. Son, who looked out for me, I was able to relax and enjoy myself, making it a wonderful day. Although we couldn't get close to Aso Volcano due to an incident, the magnificent scenery of Mount Aso was truly breathtaking. The pink Miyama Kirishima flowers were in full bloom and looked beautiful. At Kamishikimi Kumanoza Shrine, I walked along a mystical mountain path to worship, and then felt a sense of rejuvenation and power at the nearby Hokedo-iwa rock. At Kurokawa Onsen, I thoroughly enjoyed the skin-beautifying hot springs and was very satisfied with the onsen tamago (hot spring eggs). This tour is highly recommended for experiencing Kumamoto's nature, hot springs, and the warmth of its people. I've grown to love Kumamoto even more, and it has become my "another sky."
Great tour. The trip covered a large amount of the Kumamoto Prefecture, with stunning views of the countryside & Mt. Aso. Due to volcanic activity it was not possible go to the summit (government legislation) however we went to 2 viewpoints to watch the smoke rising from the volcano, which was more than sufficient. The tour was conducted in Chinese & not English as advertised, however our guide was more than capable of assisting us and updating us using a translate app. Our guide (Li Hong )was very friendly and professional and assisted us with booking a private onsen at Kurokawa onsen (public onsen does not allow tattoos) which we would not have been able to do on our own, thanks to her we had an amazing use of Kurokawa onsen. Start to finish the tour was very good, the views and energy at the shrine were amazing and very peaceful. The tour is suitable for all ages/fitness levels and does not involve too much hiking. Highly reccomend as it is an amazing experience and very good value.
yes. it is a marvellous experience. The guide is very professional and knowledgeable. He is helpful and friendly.
I joined a tour on January 1, 2026, and it started snowing in downtown Kumamoto early in the morning. For a winter itinerary, the snow was truly beautiful! At one point, we couldn't go up Mount Aso due to the heavy fog, but the tour guide helped us adjust the itinerary to visit Kusasenri first. Later, we were lucky enough to go up the mountain, but both spots were so cold that we didn't want to leave the buildings.🤣 In the end, relying on the tour guide's luck and the experienced driver's skills, we successfully connected to the last stop at Kurokawa Onsen, completing a super perfect day! Special thanks to our tour guide, Sun Peng, for all his help and introductions, he was humorous and friendly! I would like to try other itineraries if I have the chance!
Kamishikimi Kumanoza Shrine is beautiful, but due to the weather, we couldn't go to Mount Aso or Kurokawa Onsen. Kurokawa Onsen wasn't as impressive as I imagined; it's like a prettier version of Taiwan's Wulai Old Street hot spring area, and the hot springs aren't much better than those in Taiwan.
The whole trip was very enjoyable. The tour guide was very nice and introduced us to Kumamoto and Aso. The scenery along the way was also very beautiful. The only regret was that the fog was too heavy that day and we couldn't see the crater.
Well-planned itinerary. The guide is friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. He has been in Japan for more than 20 years and leads tours of the entire 九州. Aside from our trip, he also recommended us some food spots and other places in Fukuoka. Driving skill is a bonus too! You bascule just hop on the coach and sleep until next destination. ;)
I had to book this trip with a Chinese speaking guide as it was the only day I had available. To be honest, because of a couple who did the important translation, it wasn’t an issue. Saw lots of cool things, without the hassle of public transport.
itinerary is well planned; guide is very knowledgeable and helpful, not only goes he shares information about each destination, he also shares background about Kyushu and Kumamoto on the whole. Guide also went the extra mile recommend restaurants and what tourist can do after the tour and during their free time. Will definitely recommend this tour to anyone who is here in Kumamoto for the first time and wants to get a quick flavor of a day tour on the outskirts of the city!
I joined the Kumamoto one-day tour today, and the overall experience was pretty good. In the morning, we went to Kamishikimi Kumanoza Shrine, the environment was very quiet, and the photos looked great, but there were many people in the morning, so we needed to wait a bit to take pictures. Then we went to Mount Aso, the mountain scenery was spectacular, but because the weather was a bit foggy, the distant views were not so clear. The tour guide's explanation was very detailed, and they also helped us take pictures, which was very thoughtful. After lunch, we went to Kurokawa Onsen, where we could relax in the hot springs. The water temperature was just right, and the environment was clean, but the place was not big, and there were a few too many tourists. The overall itinerary was smooth, and the tour guide's explanation in both Chinese and English was understandable, suitable for families or friends to participate together. Although there were some small regrets in the small details, the scenery and hot spring experience were still very worthwhile.
