Mount Merapi is definitely a must go attraction in Yogyakarta. Where can u can get close to a live volcano which is still having a small eruption 2 months ago. We were brought close the 4km radius but unfortunately we couldn't see the top bcos of the cloud. But on the way to the place, were able to see the whole volcano from the car. The jeep driver which is also our guide could speak good English and able to explain all the stuff and being a local who lives within 6km radius when it last had a big eruption in 2009/10. The jeep ride was an experience for my wife and kids. The water ride through the river bed, if want to do it, must wear rain coat. U will definitely get wet. We chose not to do it as I think even with rain coat, it will still get wet. Moreover, it was quite a dry river bed and when the jeep rode over, brought water and sands as well.
a little too expensive for a nearby destination from Yogja. Pick up was punctual but my driver still learning to speak English so we have minimal conversation. However, the jeep guide Fanny was amazing! He lent me his jacket when I forgot to take mine and it was quite cold in the morning, he didn’t drive fast so I won’t catch much wind and his command of English is so good that we held a decent conversation on hiking. The sunrise or Merepi didn’t happen cos we had a heavy fog but still we went ahead and I got to see some nice lava rocks along the way. Fanny took some nice photos with his jeep despite Merepi didn’t appear but no one to blame as it’s weather. He was detailed at the museum and didn’t rush through so i understand what happened over those volcano eruptions. Amazing guide I had and thank you Fanny.
Highly recommended to join the Private Jeep Tour Merapi in Yogyakarta. We were picked up at the train station upon arrival and taken to the hotel after the tour was finished. Our drivers Mr. Budi and Mr. Antoni were very helpful and friendly. The tour went well even though the weather was cloudy so the mountain was not very visible. The trip using this jeep was very impressive, it would be a shame if you go to Yogya and don't try it.
amazing trip! the guide is also very good in photography, knowing the best photo spot and helping us to take amazing photo. jeep ride can be quite cold in the morning before sunrise. We enjoyed alot. Definitely a must do activity in jgoja
Nice experience! The driver came around 3.45pm then drove to the pick up point and change to a jeep. The jeep driver helped us take many nice photos, overall was fun. Bring a jacket as it was cold in the morning! About 18 degrees in the morning. Tour ended around 10+ or 11am and driver drop us off at the restaurant we requested for
fav activity for the trip - our jeep guide fajar was amazing. we started our journey at 5am, weather was cooling and we were lucky to have a clear sky to see mt merapi! its soooo beautiful, love at first sight 🗻 if im ever there again, will def wanna try out the sunrise jeep tour! ps prep a change of clothes or a raincoat if u wanna get the wet experience at the river!
Lufi, our driver, picked us up on time, and his English was quite fluent. He got us to the Merapi Jeep early, and we managed to see Mount Merapi in her most silently beautiful state. We opted for the Medium Route, and our Jeep Driver was very energetic, fun, and helpful. Sadly, we didn't get his name, but he's the best! He took great photos for us and brought us to the best spot for photo-taking! He also shared with us that his family used to live in the village, which was destroyed by the 2010 eruption. We're very fortunate he managed to escape with his family before that or we wouldn't have gotten to meet him! I'd suggest going for the Long route so you get to explore more of the area, and the best time is to go in the morning (we opted for a 5am pick up) so the weather is cool and you get to see Mount Merapi much clearer (we were told that it's usually rather cloudy in the afternoon so the AM is the best time to catch the full view of the volcano).
Our pickup time was 5am. Our driver was punctual and nice. It took around 40 mins to get there. The jeep tour was very informative and the tour guide is really good for taking pictures. We had really fun time there.
You can easily enjoy the majestic nature of Mount Merapi. The museum, which uses a disaster-stricken house as it is, has vivid exhibits that are very moving. It is very easy because it includes transportation. Both the driver and the guide were kind, and I was able to enjoy it without stress. In the rainy season, even if it is not raining in the morning, the clouds will come in the afternoon and you will not be able to see the mountain, so I recommend going early.
It was my first time doing either and/or both the activities. trying not to fall while walking on the slippery mud was quite interesting. tubing on a current of water was quite fun. but apart from all this, Eza, our driver, was fun and friendly and always helpful. He said yes to everything we asled for. He even took us to the Kopi Luwak place even though that wasn’t on the itinerary.
