【Itinerary Introduction】 🗺️ Route 1: Dunhuang City Hotel to Yangguan Scenic Area to Han Great Wall Site to Yumenguan to Dunhuang City Hotel
【✨Highlights of the Itinerary】
🌄 Yangguan Scenic Area Yangguan is located southwest of Dunhuang and is a strategic pass on the southern route of the Silk Road, famous for Wang Wei’s poem “No old friends west of Yangguan.” The scenic area has restored the appearance of the Han Dynasty pass city and features a museum displaying Silk Road artifacts and history. Visitors can experience interactive activities such as obtaining a customs clearance document and riding horses out of the pass, feeling the thousand-year-old border defense culture and merchant sentiment amidst the beacon tower ruins and Gobi desert scenery.
🏰 Han Great Wall Site The Dunhuang Han Great Wall is an outstanding example of military defense engineering from the Western Han Dynasty, with walls constructed from rammed earth and reeds undulating across the Gobi desert. The site preserves a complete system of beacon towers and fortresses, with relics such as the Danggu Beacon Tower being particularly spectacular. Despite two thousand years of wind and sand erosion, it still bears witness to the ancient border defense wisdom and the historical depth of Silk Road security.
🗝️ Yumenguan (Jade Gate Pass) Yumenguan, as one of the most important passes on the Silk Road, is known as the “Gateway to the Western Regions.” The existing square rammed earth pass city ruins still stand majestically, embodying the historical desolation of “Spring breeze does not cross Yumenguan.” This was not only a military stronghold but also a witness to cultural exchange between East and West. In 2014, it was inscribed on the World Heritage List as part of the “Silk Roads: Chang’an-Tianshan Corridor”.
