Beautiful and unique interior, with generally good dance numbers, but the strange spoken performances in Chinese without translation were disappointing. Only about 2/3 of the performances would be interesting for foreign tourists.
Enjoying the Beijing-style variety show "Four Seasons Beijing·Tea" at Beijing Lao She Teahouse is truly a feast of senses and culture! The whole performance is themed on the four seasons, and different programs are linked together through the tea art display of "Spring Tea", from the puppet show "The Butterfly Lovers" to shadow play, acrobatics, face changing, etc. The program content is rich, diverse and full of creativity. In particular, performances such as the long-spouted tea art "The Teapot Turns the World" and the lantern-holding drum not only demonstrated the exquisiteness of traditional skills, but also allowed people to feel the strong Beijing culture. Drinking tea from a gaiwan while enjoying the performance, the aroma of tea and culture intertwined, making the whole night's experience more immersive. By combining modern technology with traditional art, "Four Seasons Beijing·Tea" vividly presents Beijing's life scenes and the beauty of the four seasons, allowing the audience to not only appreciate the art but also gain a deeper understanding of Beijing culture. This is a must-see performance that is highly recommended and leaves precious and unforgettable memories!
It's such a pleasant experience to be able to have a taste of the different types of traditional performance in one place! The performers themselves were amazing and we truly were touched by each of their performance!
Highly recommended! Worth a visit!
wonderful authentic cultural experience with a variety of performances. the spoken performances could enhances with English translation of sorts but still fun. ticket includes performance and jasmine tea served in gaiwan
Good performance and well received by audiences. No doubt one of the best shows in Beijing.
I was able to experience Chinese culture through face-changing performances, comedic dialogues (Xiangsheng), songs, and more. There was also a space to buy souvenirs and other items. Even from the back seats, it was still enjoyable, but if you're interested, I recommend purchasing seats closer to the front if possible.
The performers are all professional teachers who love the performances. They are not rough entertainment programs that try to get tourists' money. The venue and staff are also serious and worthy of support!

Guide

【Four Seasons Charm, Tea Ceremony Opening】: The performance opens with the Four Seasons Tea Ceremony "Spring Tea." Tea artists, dressed in traditional attire, gracefully demonstrate the brewing of spring tea amidst elegant music, filling the theater with the aroma of tea. This instantly transports the audience into a spring teahouse in Beijing, allowing them to experience the vitality of spring.

【Intangible Cultural Heritage, Diverse Interpretations】: As a traditional Beijing folk art, "Han Deng Da Gu" (Drum with Lamp in Mouth) features performers singing and dancing with lamps in their mouths, showcasing unique skills. Centennial Beijing wrestling champions fiercely compete in the arena, where strength and technique collide, presenting the passionate spirit of old Beijing. Face-changing masters instantly transform their masks, mysterious and unpredictable, integrating the essence of Sichuan Opera into a Beijing-style stage, bringing a different kind of surprise.

【Traditional Skills, Innovative Expression】: Shadow puppetry, paired with modern sound effects, uses hand shadows in the dark to outline the changing seasons and tea-related scenes. The puppet show "Butterfly Lovers" uses exquisite puppets and vivid performances to interpret a classic love story, giving new vitality to ancient art. In the long-spout teapot tea ceremony "Pot Turning the Universe," tea artists skillfully wield long-spout teapots, precisely pouring streams of water into cups, both thrilling and stunning, perfectly blending tradition and innovation.
