In the Mawangdui Han Tombs site, the famous Mawangdui female corpse was unearthed. The site is located within the Mawangdui Hospital in the eastern suburbs of Changsha. Among the three tomb pits, Tomb No. 1 and No. 2 have been backfilled, and only Tomb No. 3 and the exhibition hall above the tomb pit are open to the public.
The Mawangdui Han Tombs are the tombs of Li Cang, the Prime Minister of Changsha Kingdom in the early Western Han Dynasty, his wife, and his son. Among them, Tomb No. 1 contains the remains of Li Cang's wife, Xin Zhui. When unearthed, her soft tissues were elastic, her joints were movable, and her blood vessels were clearly visible. She was an unprecedented un-decayed wet corpse in the history of world archaeology. Later, this type of ancient corpse was named the Mawangdui corpse. Currently, the female corpse and other burial objects have been moved to the Hunan Museum.
