The hotel is a bit outdated as others wrote. It’s simple though big rooms with view of the pond. The breakfast and dinner was very good with view of the pond. The hot bath is nice with view to the pond, though it’s no Onsen (hot spring/vulcanite water). And it’s the perfect start to walk the 4-5h round trip. The bus stop is directly in the front of the hotel. If you take the bus to Kamikochi, get off one stop before(!) the final stop if you wanna go to the hotel first. Further, if you buy the bus ticket in the hotel you get ~50% discount. They also can bring your luggage to Kamikochi Bus Terminal but you also can drop it off at a service counter at the Bus Terminal (no coin lockers anywhere available). Taxi is only operated by fixed price and very expensive. As the hotel is directly at the pond, it’s perfect if you plan to shoot eg pictures during the night/early morning as you walk 20m and you are there.

The staff and service were excellent. The property was a bit outdated. Wish the mattresses and pillows were not so hard. Overall the staff was great. The kitchen prepared excellent Japanese food. Would recommend this facility to my family and friends. I would also stay here on my next trip to Japan.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Taisyoike Hotel. It was a great base to experience Kamikochi from. The front desk staff were very helpful and accommodating, the food delicious, and the spacious rooms were a nice change from the city. I would highly recommend.

good base for hiking in kamikochi national park as the hotel offers trails right on location. The view of the pond was spectacular. Note that there is no real onsen but a public bath in this hotel.

This hotel is in a perfect location to explore Kamikochi. While slightly dated, the room was extremely clean and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the food was incredible - we looked forward to our dinner each night! I’d gladly stay here again.

Nice location, next to the water. Not much else around and nowhere to go after dusk. The staff were lovely. It would be good if there was some evening activity for guests - even if there was just an open bar to sit in.

The location of this hotel is pretty amazing. It's right on the water and you have incredible views of the lake and mountains. It's very peaceful in the evening but note that all buses stop outside of the hotel dropping off day trippers on their way to a walk - though this had no impact on our stay, there are quite a lot of people starting their walk at this hotel. If you buy the return ticket to Matsumoto, you can use the ticket for free travel on the bus to Kamikochi bus station (which is very useful), and only have to pay to return (this saves c420 yen / day), however If you want to stay closer to the 'centre' then don't choose this hotel. There are very few places to eat nearby so it was great to have breakfast and dinner included into the price - and the food was fantastic. As it's a set Japanese menu, you get 13 different things to try - which really makes dinner quite an experience. There is also an attached little shop selling quite a few bits and pieces - which is very useful. There are male and female Sento (not an onsen) you are able to use - which is great, and you even get your own relaxation 'robe' to wear around the hotel if you wish. The hotel is dated and needs some modernisation - such as having a more plugs available for charging, larger tv, modern bathroom etc especially since this was very expensive compared to other hotels in Japan. But if you want to stay in the national park on the water - this is a great spot.

This was a solid hotel experience. The location is epic. The bus stops virtually at the hotel front door, for most the other hotels in Kamikochi, there is a bit of a hike. The views from the dining room were spectacular. The hotel decor was a little dated, but honestly, who really cares? The set dinner we had included was really intense-so much food. I would stay there again.
