This hotel needs a refresh. It had recently opened for the season and smelled a bit stale. The room allegedly had aircon but it wasn't very effective. The shower was the smallest space I have ever willingly put myself into. The staff were friendly and helpful. My husband enjoyed breakfast but I'm vegetarian and putting cheese on the same plate as meat is not something I'm comfortable with, especially when only one fork was put out and I watched other guests use it for both meat and cheese. They did offer cooked eggs though which was welcome and tasty. The fruit was lovely though and fresh bread was delicious. It is a budget hotel and you get a budget environment.

On the day of my reservation, I arrived at the hotel and no one answered the door or the phone. I returned to the property later and had the same result. I eventually found someone working in a garage bay and he told me the hotel was closed for renovations and that my reservation should have been cancelled. I immediately contacted Orbitz support and they said the hotel wasn't answering the phone. I had to book last-minute accommodations elsewhere. I sent a message to the hotel through Orbitz and never got a response. Nearly a month later, I still have no refund. Orbitz claims they need permission from the hotel, and apparently the hotel denied the refund request.

Quirky and Atmospheric Hotel Great location. Lots of character. Shabby,faded glory, but fun for a short trip. Male staff member upon arrival 5th March, offered perfunctory service, but the female staff member we met at breakfast on 5th was outstanding. Very engaging and clearly really cared. I watched her putting a lot of love into the breakfast presentation and was obviously proud of this as she asked how we'd enjoyed it as we checked out. She was very accommodating and this is the sort of service that makes people want to return. A couple of comments to note... yes, there is a broken mirror and light fixture in the bathroom, which judging from other reviews has been that way for a while. To be honest it sort of added to the ghost story feel of the place so wasn't concerned. I understand replacing a specific light fixture not easy to source , but the mirror was just a piece of glass did wonder why that was left as it was. We were handed a piece of paper upon arrival with some info, which stated we'd be offered a welcome drink upon arrival. When we enquired of this the curt reply from the male staff member was we stopped offering this 5 years ago and definately wouldn't offer to those booked on Hotels.com!! OK then! Why not update the info, its only a piece of printed paper! Hotel could be a gorgeous boutique hotel with some investment, but then I'm sure I could never afford to stay here! A like it as it is, but with a tiny bit more care to fix broken items etc

Charming, lovely, clean hotel room and nice breakfast buffet. Close to town, all in walking distance. Would come again.

I did not feel that the website portrayed the facility as it is. It is an old facility with old furniture and bed, e.g. keys to the room were from the 1920's. Bathroom facilities were modern and quite satisfactory.

Hotel is quaint, in a period building with high ceilings and creaky floorboard. Staff were helpful, parking in their garage convenient, and the neighbourhood was quiet. TV didnt work, nor the Bathroom light, but the receptionist fixed the latter and we didn't bother to mention the TV. Main negative was the very bad smell from the drains in the bathroom, and the lack of air con.

Interesting character property that could probably do with a bit of a refresh. The room was a good size, with a comfortable bed. A couple of minor flaws, wiring was visible on the ceiling light, and the window frames had seen better days. I will probably stay elsewhere next time I am in Ghent.

Very nice small hotel! Breakfast was amazing. The room was comfortable, the area is beautiful, and we happened upon a small festival in the city center. We plan to stay again if we are ever in Ghent in the future!
