First of all this is a magical location - absolutely beautiful. The staff were super friendly and helpful. But it’s impossible to get past the flies - there were thousands of them - in the eating area, the outside area, the kitchen and the bedrooms. At minimum fly screens should be put in the bedroom - but it’s impossible to reconcile laying around $200usd for dinner and having to fight off flies while eating and also then seeing dozens of flies in the kitchen. Apparently the problem is common in this area (related to levels of cow dung) so maybe ask around if this is where you want to stay but it just feels so unheigenic. Also the beds feel and sound like they are going to fall apart if you sneeze - probably really old but so noisy at night - and combined with the flies on your face while sleeping not so relaxing. Again staff were amazing and very accommodating and the location of incredible.

I read the other reviews. The basic idea of this hotel is cool, it's such a unique spot. However, for me, thats about as good as it got. On arrival, I had my back pack and a suitcase, walked into the hotel, did not see a reception desk or any staff. So I walked back out to make sure I was in the right spot. There was a table of several women sitting close by the door, who watched me do this, never said a word to me. The next day I realized they were staff. Our room was hot, several flies, and the worse thing was, my bed creaked extremely whenever I moved. I'd roll over and it creaked loud enough to wake the dead. If I owned this property, I would lock the frame down with a few lag bolts, that's just me.The shared bathrooms worked out fine. Probably the time of year, but the flies on the back deck were overwhelming when trying to eat. If I owned this property I would invest in a fly trap with bait to try to cut their population, that's just me. We ordered the fondue for 3 one evening. I heard "it's 34 CHF", so when it came with a bowl of bread, about a dozen pickle slices, 10 potatoes ( 2 CHF) and probably a dozen pieces of pear (canned and fresh for 2 CHF) and we each got a small salad of lettuce/radish. At checkout we were charged 34 CHF EACH. I didn't realize it was 34 CHF each, my bad, but the more I thought about it, it felt like such a rip off. So I wrote to them, to see if this was correct.I did get a polite response, basically"it is what it is" paraphrased

A one of a kind experience. Sabine and staff were wonderful.

I did not want to leave. It felt like I was staying with family. The view is indescribable. Even if you have seen the photos, there’s no comparison to experiencing it in person. Heaven on earth.

This is the place you are looking for if you want the perfect Swiss experience in my opinion.

View was amazing and the staff very helpful. We loved our room it was the perfect mountain Lodge experience. Easy access with Swiss rail. Highly recommend.

Gimmelwald is a great spot, quiet and out of the way and beautiful!! Highly recommend staying here to get away from the crowds. Pension Gimmelwald was a fantastic spot with excellent service and wonderful staff.

It was a lovely experience. When staff realized that we were booked into a double room at the end of a steep staircase, they offered us a triple room on the second floor. For our hikes, we could use hiking sticks that were there for the guests to use. My wife could even use a pair of spikes. The food was wonderful prepared with love, and we had nice conversations.

Rustic quaintness, felt like Christmas morning every day.

We had an absolutely magical stay. Loved reading in the morning, sledding in the afternoon, and exploring the village of Gimmelwald and Murren. We thoroughly enjoyed breakfast and dinners in the pension as well as nightly beer and hot chocolate.
