極佳 Wonderful outdoor onsen. Highlight was the shampoo bar where you could choose. Easy parking and convenience store just a short walk around the corner. Beautiful sea views.

We got the room with the private onsen and it was great. The view facing the waters was really peaceful and beautiful as well
The room was huge and the meals were fantastic.
However, there were quite a few insects on the first floor which was where our room is

Clean, comfortable and well located and the staff was very nice. The Onsen was very nice.
When I made my booking, only a couple weeks prior, there was no option to book ‘breakfast only.’ Half board incudes a Kaiseki dinner which was good but it would be nice to have options to go out to eat without prepaying meals.
Overall a very enjoyable stay

I was absolutely amazed with this hotel! Their staff incredibly friendly and helpful, the hotel incredibly clean, and exactly as they shown in the pictures, their food its amazing.
Everything exceeded my expectations, I totally recommend people to stay and promote this paradise!
Thank you to all staff working at this hotel, you are truly amazing!

We stayed here 3 nights in April (visiting from NYC). My husband got food poisoning from the hotel the second night (we know this because we shared every meal on our trip except 1). Food in general was not very good… we didn’t realize the ryokan culture is to eat a huge breakfast and dinner at the hotel, so we saw the reviews saying the food isn’t great and didn’t think much of it. The reviews are right! Other thoughts: if you google kii-katsuura one of the main attractions is whale watching, the hotel staff knew nothing about it. We had to do our own research and find a tour (tour co was 20 min away and picked us up from our hotel but just odd hotel staff were unhelpful). Also private outdoor onsen rooms on the first floor do not have a view of the ocean, which was a disappointment, worth it to pay more for a higher floor. But mostly do not recommend this place at all.

Tatami mat full of stain, dust on table, coffee machine area and on lamp at sink area. Big spider web at the outdoor near open air bath. Half shelter only at open air bath and shower area, it was raining when we check in that day. Unable to shower or use onsen. Pillar in room are worn off and those outside are rusty. Washing machine have lot of fibre left on the rim, no maintenance. Breakfast and dinner served not authentic Japanese style and food quality were bad. Disappointing and regretted tgat we paid $500 plus for such room.
