Traveled down late in evening from London Called on route around 8pm to make sure I could check in around 11pm, no body answered so I left a voice mail with my number, the time I was planning to arrive, my name, booking and a request if there is any issue with me checking in at this time, please call me so I know NO REPLY, NO CALL BACK, NO RESPONSE Arrived 11pm no body on site, reception closed, no bell, no contact number for out of hours by reception (another guest told me they used to have a sign with an emergency or out of hours contact on the wall but this has now been removed) I obviously tried calling the number for the hotel, option reception 5 calls no answer, option for all other inquiries 5 calls no answer… At no point through booking did this mention there was a closing time for checking in, no part of my itinerary email mentions this, and confirmation email from hotel did not mention this So I spent money on your hotel and business just to spend the night in my car at the side of a road… THANKS FOR THAT BTW

The bathroom was a disgrace. Grubby, poorly maintained, flooring and panels were heavily water damaged. A small leak from wash basin. Decor was grubby. The main bedroom was more like being in a hostel. Expedia should not be including this facility!

The worst hotel I have ever stayed in! This place is extremely run down, old and filthy. The photos on the this website must be from 50 years ago, as it looks nothing like that! The room was dirty, with cobwebs on the ceiling and windows, thick dust in the wardrobe and someones dirty used tissue still in it. Old fashioned carpet & curtains that are faded with wear and tear. The carpet was dirty with crusty stains and visible dust in the corners. The bathroom was from the 60's, peach bathroom suite with mahogany panels. There was so much limescale on the taps, they were green, with crusty marks in the sink, and in the base of the toilet that it was totally brown. The shower head over the bath had so much limescale that it just dribbled, so totally pointless. The worst part was that they never service my room in the 5 nights that I stayed there! After day 2, I went to reception and complained and asked why my room had not been cleaned, no fresh towels, no rubbish removed, no toilet roll. I also complained at how dirty my room was with cobwebs and dust.The 2 people in reception apologised and said they only clean rooms twice a week. That's disgusting! They handed me 2 toilet rolls and assured me that my room would be cleaned the next day. This never happened. In my whole stay they never cleaned my room or replaced my towels, even though I had requested it. They could not be bothered to offer any customer service. Don't waste your money staying in this horrible place, it's awful!

Room was basic and needed a good clean and Fresh paint. In fact the whole place needs to be modernised and freshened up entirely, continental breakfast can not replace a fry up

Very nice staff. Property in poor repair but as clean as it possibly could be.

The room was clean and comfortable. It is a lovely hotel.

The property was tired, the kettle and tax didn’t work. The radiator covers were broken. Clean bedding.

I booked last minute but was then concerned by more recent reviews. Travelling with my wife I had trepidation which proved entirely without foundation as all was absolutely fine. From the most entirely charming lady on the reception desk to opening the room door it was immediately obvious I had by chance chosen very well. It's a great looking old country house, lots of character. Perhaps many reviewers want perfection: personally I would suggest soaking up character. The room warm, bathroom impeccable, all good. One to remember as far a I'm concerned.
