A lovely twist on an English Breakfast.

This hotel is a hidden gem with helpful and friendly staff. Feels like a b&b with cooked breakfast, games area for adults and kids. The staff went above and beyond - helping us with transport to our next destination, making calls (in Japanese) and driving us to our shuttle connection. Rooms were comfortable and warm. It’s about 10mins from the town centre but they do offer pick up and drop offs from the train, and it makes it quiet and peaceful. Highly recommend!

The hotel/guesthouse is quite some distance from the central parts of Karuizawa. You would definitely need a car if staying here. Whilst newly renovated, the property feels like a poorly designed mixture of English and Japanese concepts that don’t really work well together. I’m confident there are better value for money options in Karuizawa.

Wonderful hotel with a delightful owner and manager. Warm and cozy bar-restaurant with great full-course meals, a nice deck to soak in the sun, and walkable (20 min) to the terrace and forest reserve. Beautiful location in autumn.

Enjoyed our stay with Wellies, truly a rare and delightful gem in Karuizawa. Chris, Judy, and the rest of staff were very kind and a accommodating, the food was excellent, and the vibe of the place was warm and genial. Chris has an excellent music collection that really brightened our day and made us feel nostalgic. Highly recommended!

Easy parking on sight, fresh eggs taken straight from the chickens at the hotel, Chris is an amazing host and cook. My wife and I loved every moment there, we would easily stay again if we go back to Karuizawa.

Hotel Wellies is a great find in Karuizawa! Everything about our stay was outstanding- the room was clean, comfortable and tastefully decorated; the full English breakfast was delicious (kids got to pick the eggs at the chicken coop in the morning); the location was great, close to Hoshino area with onsens; Chris, the owner, was so nice, welcoming and helpful. The inn dog, Freddie, totally won our heart ❤️ I highly recommend Hotel Wellies!!

We stayed for a long weekend at Hotel Wellies and it was exceptional. Chris and Judy made us feel at home from the first moment, and Freddie (the dog) was always around to great us! The food was excellent and served with a lovely view, and as an added bonus we got to help Chris collect the eggs for our full English! Chris was kind enough to give us rides to several places and thus avoid a lot of rain as well. Though the walk from the station is pleasant and not long if you need to do it. Our stay was exceptional and we'll definitely be back to visit Chris and all the staff again. Highly recommended!
