Wonderful Makarora Lodge - how can it be called wonderful? Do not stay here! Arrived April 27, 2028 approx 5:30 pm for a one night stay. Staff gone, picked up the two folded papers w/keys from reception area showing # of two chalets. Nothing has been done to the inside of the chalets for many many years. Mold on wood in room as you open the door on the right bottom wall. Very dirty stained carpet inside entrance, Only 1/8 - 1/4 inch of the roll of toilet paper in bathroom. Soap dispenser in shower was empty. Bathroom sink did not have a stopper so difficult to wash face or hands; you either had to use cold water or hot water (which of course would burn you). Took ~12 photos of interior. Some windows were left a little open when I arrived to chalet. Thank you, FFW

Check in was good, details and directions given for our Lodge.All amenities available. Walked down to the Cafe/ bar and enjoyed a glass of wine in front of the log fire. Checked following at 9:45pm, filled the car from their onsite petrol station. All good.

Very friendly and helpful staff. I loved the chalet. We had a room with a shared kitchen and bathroom which was fine. It’s a beautiful location.

We went here for the throwback look of the cute chalets. While we could have slept 7 in our room, there was just the two of us. Loved how quaint the area was, and the night sky brilliance with Milky Way visible, was out of this world!! Room was a little dated but that is what we wanted.

The amenities could do with a major spruce up

Great place to stay. Quiet, peaceful and clean room.

It is a basic a frame in the bush. Nice theme though. People are great.

It's a great place to stop to or from the west coast. Very friendly and the dinner at the cafe was great. Good wine and beer also.

The A frame was very clean and cosy. There are no bathrooms in the rooms, but there is a sink. You have to walk to the common area to use the toilets and showers. We weren’t comfortable using the showers. The cafe was amazing. Great food and service. I would definitely recommend staying there, but just be aware the bathrooms need a little updating.

Good for a one night stay.
