This is an amazing ryokan , the dinner and breakfast was so pretty and tasteful. That I didn’t want to touch it. The staff are friendly and very helpful.

Traditional Japanese onsen hotel. Tatami style rooms. Very delicious breakfast and dinner. Friendly and helpful staff.

Cute property with everything you’d ever want. Hosts were great and a truly relaxing weekend. Worth the trip up into the mountains.

Very handy location for Mount Fuji and the Lakes - you probably need a car. Rooms were fine, but we did find the thin futons and lack of comfy seating a little too much - but that's maybe typical, and we shouldn't complain too much. We had a fridge, kettle, coffee machine with coffee pods, daily bottles of water. The rooms were a good size. The restaurant served typical Japanese food at breakfast and dinner, which was great, but it didn't change much in the 3 days we were there. Alcohol and drinks are also available at a reasonable price. Each room was given a 50-minute slot each evening to use one of the 2 Onsens - these were very nice, and you had an indoor and an outdoor bath. There's probably availability during the day as well, but we were out looking at mountains etc. Plenty of convenience stores and a supermarket nearby.

This onsen was very quiet and comfortable. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The food was delicious.

There is no breakfast if you don’t book it. Expedia says free breakfast but this is not accurate. You need to book breakfast and dinner before you arrive and both will cost extra. You can arrange via Expedia chat with them but it will be several days before you get a reply. The hotel itself is lovely and the room and hotspring baths were fantastic. We were provided with sandals, socks and robes to wear to dinner and around the property. It was not clear that these could be worn to the meal and to the onsen, but we asked and were told yes. The dinner was fantastic, so much food and expertly prepared. We struggled to eat it all! It was delicious and well worth the cost (8k per adult, 6k per child). Dinner was 5:30 - 6:50 at which point they wanted us to leave the restaurant. Breakfast is only at 8am. If you’re planning on doing a full day in Hakone i would suggest getting breakfast on the way. The local supermarket doesn’t open till 9:30 so don’t rely on that either! Overall we were very happy with our stay and accept the language barrier and slight issues as lack of our understanding and culture. I’m sure others will be disappointed to have no breakfast though if they don’t read this review!

Magical places, loved the onsen and food.

Fun ryokan experience. Delicious breakfast and dinner. Very friendly staff. We reserved onsen times at check-in (50 minute slot per day) and the onsen itself was wonderful. Reachable with about ~10mins walking from nearby Tozan bus stops. Would stay here again. My only small nitpick is that there was a small inactive crane vehicle on the lot next to the ryokan, which didn’t obstruct the amazing views but the views from the room window would’ve been more “perfect” without it. Still had a 10/10 experience.

While not designed for foreigners, the staff are proficient in English, generous, and accommodating. Just a little Japanese will ingratiate them to you even further. Westerners will be pushed a little outside of their comfort zone, but in a relaxing, kind, and easy-to-adapt-to way. Don’t forget that the onsen tax must be paid on site and in cash (¥150 per night when I stayed). The food is elaborate, delicious, but decidedly Japanese. The staff will talk you through it if you need help.
