no air con no windows 3 beds basically attached together horrible place

The Hotel Old Nicol is located in the touristed old city. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Unfortunately my room was located opposite a karaoke bar in the “entertainment” hub of the old city. Arriving in a heatwave I had to have the window open and waves of noise came through to 3 am. To access my room I had to climb narrow and steep stairs that would challenge a lighthouse keeper and very few of them have to drag 20 kilos of suitcase as well! The room was also VERY small . I could only access my suitcase by putting it on the bed which became frustrating after a time. The room would have been fun for a 19 year old but if he or she “got lucky” there probably isn’t room to perform to one’s full potential. Lucky I’m a reasonably fit 63 year old who made it work but it wasn’t a comfortable stay, certainly not in a heatwave!

Nice little room in a very old building but renovated and in good condition. The location is right in the middle of central Amsterdam and be warned there is a lot street noise. Bed is necessarily small but it was clean and fresh. Noise calms down around closing times for bars. If you want in the middle of night life this is for you. Restaurants bars and everything is right here in walking distance. Amsterdam is lovely but it also quite the party scene. Not for everyone's taste but fun if you're into it.

This was an excellent choice for us, we were two siblings sharing a room. Our beds were cleverly separated by a shelf/bookcase and the beds and linens were very comfortable. Bathroom and shower were great. Friendly helpful staff. Great location to local transportation and we felt quite safe even though the hotel is in a busy area near the central station.

The hotel has a very central location in Amsterdam’s Red Light District, making it easy to walk to major attractions, restaurants, and nightlife. However, the area is very loud at night. I was placed in a building just down the street from the main hotel, directly across from a karaoke bar, and the noise continued until around 3 AM every night. The room was fairly basic and did not include an in-room safe.

Ideal spot right in the middle of everything We were placed in the attic 4 flights of stairs and they were a nightmare very narrow which I noticed most of the stairs we used in pubs etc were the same so obviously how they were built back in the day The bathroom smelt like the canal which was very unpleasant in the morning but we only stayed 2 nights which was fine we had a great weekend and it didn't spoil our stay. 🤗

It is in a really good location, close to train station and also many attractions. Hotel bar is unique and amazing

The room was small (as expected) but had everything I needed for a short stay. Check in/out was smooth. Location was very central and convenient. Things to consider: Central location - noise at night Historic building - steep stairs Small room - short bed for a tall person.

Room was represented accurately: Small but a place for your bags. Comfortable bed. Noisy at night. Steep staircase. Clean.

This hotel had a bar right next to it so we were up until after 2 both nights. I think this should have been more transparent. This hotel is better suited for the younger people.
