I would not stay here again. The biggest issue happened at check-in. The front desk employee insisted I pay a $30/day "resort fee" even though I believed it had already been paid through Hotels.com. When I offered a credit card, she insisted on cash only, explaining it was difficult to work out the payment with Expedia/Hotels.com otherwise. That didn't make much sense to me. After a long drive I paid, received no receipt, and left feeling very uncomfortable about the transaction. Calling it a "resort fee" is almost laughable. This place is about as far from a resort as you can get. There were a few bananas sitting out one day, but no daily housekeeping or amenities that justified the extra charge. The room had several issues. The entry door barely latched unless you pushed it very hard. The bathtub looked heavily stained and worn, to the point my kids didn't even want to use it. Our room smelled like marijuana, and the parking lot often did too. There were cigarette smokers gathered outside the entrances, and on two mornings a homeless man was sitting just outside a side entrance. Over the Fourth of July, people set off fireworks in the parking lot for about two hours, only about 20 feet from the hotel. They even had to stop so I could drive through to park. I never saw staff intervene. Finally, on two mornings the hotel's front entrance was still locked around 9:00 a.m. Overall, the property felt poorly managed, and I would not recommend staying here.

Bathroom was not well cleaned there was hair and dirt on the floor. We also requested extra towels on the second morning of our stay and did not receive them.

The stay was great.

Very disappointed with this hotel. I paid $166 for the room, and it was not worth the price. The hotel did not clearly disclose the $110 deposit until check-in, when it was too late for me to cancel. The room and overall experience did not justify the cost. I would not stay here again and would not recommend it to others

This was one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had. From the moment we walked into the room, it was obvious that it had not been properly cleaned. There were crumbs and trash on the floor, the bedding and chairs were covered in stains, and there wasn’t even soap in the bathroom. We were also given less than a single day’s worth of toilet paper. The room itself was in terrible condition. Several of the lights barely worked, making the space feel even more run-down. To make matters worse, the woman who greeted us at check-in was rude and unprofessional instead of trying to help resolve any of these issues. Not only that but she kept questioning if me and my friend (both females) were going to be bringing “guests” back insinuating we were a couple of cheap broads. We were both shocked and insulted. The most frustrating part came when the hotel attempted to charge an $80 fee that was never properly disclosed. When we refused to pay it in cash, they simply charged it to our credit card instead. We took photos of everything and will be including them because the condition of this hotel speaks for itself. Save yourself the disgust and disrespect and stay somewhere else. Even the locals were horrified we stayed in Independence, so avoid the whirl area if you can. There are far better places to spend your money.

This was by far the worst “hotel” I have ever seen. Bugs, black long hair, brown goop in bathroom and carpet was cut up with half of the furniture missing. Was first put into a room that wasn’t cleaned then the second room had a woman in it half dressed and shocked. Finally moved upstairs and there was a red tint all over the bathroom and the front desk lady was so rude and dmsaif there’s no continental breakfast due to them not shopping , im not joking. I was told my friend had to pay $20 cash to go in the room with me to help me with my bags. They triple charged me my deposit and now refuse a refund. The man that works there is sarcastic and tries to play the victim. Do not stay here unless you’re ready for a fight because they are thieves. And “forget” how you paid. What a joke! Glad we are taking this part seriously so this won’t happen to anyone again.

The best person to assist us was the maintenance man - Dexter. He was empathetic to our concerns regarding the broken safe and questionable bath tub. He moved us to a better room. Don’t be afraid to speak up. Dexter explained they are working to improve all the rooms a little at a time. Totally understandable. What we didn’t and still don’t understand is the $20 cash requested upon our arrival. This was not mentioned when we booked online. It gave a sense of something shady going on.
