(The Westin Changbaishan Resort)

Don’t be fooled by the Westin branding. Classic domestic hotel: looks good from a distance but rooms too hot and too dry, no way to control heating, fixtures and fittings falling apart, horrible smells coming from the plumbing, poor cleanliness, offensively bad coffee etc. Honestly, I suspect it’s no better or worse than the neighbouring hotels, just giving an honest review from a European perspective. Staff were very friendly though, and it’s very close to the ski area. Good restaurants available in a little hamlet about 1.5km south of the ski center.

Our prepaid reservation was made on 6/3 on Hotels.Com because other hotels had no rooms. We arrived on 6/11, were told Westin was closed and were asked to stay at cheaper Sheraton next door with the payment we already made to Westin. Everybody in town seemed to know Westin was closed. However, nobody from Westin or Hotel,Com contacted us about this. Even today Hotel.Com still showed that Westin was open for reservation. This was a bait ans switch.
