Don't let the messy reception area fool you. This is a great place to stay in Kyoto! Fantastic proprietor, large clean room and comfortable beds. It's a great choice for a budget hotel and gives you everything you need for your stay.

Our host was incredible and made for an unforgettable first-time trip to Japan.

This is a bare bones “hotel” that is really more like a hostel. The proprietor was very nice but only there very limited hours. The room was clean and had everything we needed-no maid/cleaning services but there are extra towels/sheets in hallway. Downstairs in the small lobby doesn’t look very nice-dirty and cluttered-but the area is close to bus and subway service and rooms are clean and comfortable.

Kevin the owner was so nice and helpful. Great place to be.

What an awesome little place. Plain and simple, roomy, comfy and convenient to most things in under a 20 minute walk. And the little stream outside is worth everything !

I absolutely loved our stay here. It was a quite, beautiful and dreamy neighborhood. I loved how big our room was compared to most hotels in the area. The rooms has everything that you need and more! If I am ever in Kyoto again I will be staying here again. This hotel has 100% set the standard pretty high for other hotels I stay at in Japan in the future.

This place was pretty awesome. Good location on a cozy small canal full of frogs and lush plants, the room was clean and the host was really cool. I'd recommend this place to anyone!

We really enjoyed our overnight stay here. It was super quiet, very well maintained and clean. The trains/subways are within walkable distance, but not as close as we'd have liked. Still, very manageable. Our host, Kevin, was super nice and communicative. Check in/out was extremely easy. He even let us leave our backpacks behind after check out so we could explore Kyoto more freely. He even provided us bike locks to secure them in the storage area, which honestly was a nice touch, though I'm sure not needed. Would definitely stay here again.

The location was beautiful, small lake in front of property and lovely sitting area next to lake. Kevin was a wonderful host, he suggested a terrific little sake bar near the guesthouse. Kevin offered to drive us to the train station upon check out. That was such a generous and much appreciated gesture. Of the four different lodgings we had, this was by far the best!!

Hatsune Guesthouse was perfect on its own but Kevin the manager made it even better with his warm hospitality! Great location right on the canal, beautiful clean room room with a deep wooden bath and private garden access! Highly recommended…
