This is a place with character. John was great, and I enjoyed everyone I met, both staff and guests. The room was exactly what I needed, clean, restful, and with a definite history. Loved it!

The Braemar on Parliament Street is a treasure from another time when the world was slower and craftsmanship and quality meant something. You'll be seated at a breakfast table with other guests in a truly delightful room with china tea cups, handmade wooden furnishings and a generous breakfast made just the way you like it! If you're looking for one of those carbon copy hotels. This is not for you. But, if you want a unique experience; this has something in every corner! And, one of the best places to start is with the host -- John! He's a veritable encyclopedia of stories of the building and places to see, eat and visit!

Tuyệt vời The room was beautiful, as was the whole BnB. The hosts were wonderful and so accommodating and gave us suggestions on places of interest. Braemar is on the historic register and is full of beautiful antiques and interesting paintings and books to peruse. It is in an excellent location, being in the city center and close to the harbor and ferry. Breakfast was delicious and the overall ambiance is wonderful. I highly recommend this to everyone coming to Auckland.

As other reviewers have noted, John is friendly and eager for his guests to have a great stay. However, I think it is also important to have truth in advertising. We booked the suite and found that it is in poor condition. There is significant water damage on one wall, leaving a big moldy patch. The bed is worn and lumpy. The settee is tattered and really not meant to be sat on. The bathtub is cracked and the luxury toiletries consisted of a recycled plastic bottle with a handwritten “bath salts” label. The tv lounge is now dominated by a second bed that is on a low frame that rocks back and forth. I appreciate that John gave us a partial refunded when we opted to leave, and we met another couple that were happy repeat customers when we checked in. So my take away is to book here for the company, not the luxury.
