When we arrived in Brighton on the 22nd July we were shocked to see the whole of the front of the hotel immersed in scaffolding and most of it covered in sheeting. Only one access door was available to the hotel. The receptionist explained the hotel was about to be renovated and preparation had already begun. Our sea-view room turned out to be a scaffold-view room with scaffold and platforms outside all three windows, greatly reducing our view of the seafront. The staff have always been great here and carried on as usual. However, if we had known about these details in advance, we would not have booked the hotel.

Nice hotel, nice room. Booked last minute for a one night stop over and was exactly what you want.

Was greeted by a very unhelpful receptionist ..,decor was very updated and skirting boards were rotten ,,.Room was ok apart from no main light bulb no plug sockets by bed .,,king size bed with a double headboard and was woken up at 5and 6 am by the dustmen emptying glass bottles in big bin outside no water provided considering this is supposed to be. 4 star I regret I will only given it a 1 star review and the cost for £150 a night does not justify!!!!

Nice room - a bit dated by comfortable

Unfortunately, my husband and I checked out of The Old Ship Hotel within ten minutes of arriving. There was a large rug covering most of the carpet in our room. Within minutes of my husband sitting down, he felt something on his ankle. When it happened a second time, we realised it was a flea. As we were unable to stay in the room, we returned to reception. We were told that the hotel was fully booked, so an alternative room could not be offered. The manager came to speak to us, apologised for the situation, and immediately offered us a refund. Disappointingly, his was a part refund, excluding what I learnt was Expedia’s commission, on my return I then had to contact Expedia direct to claim the full amount ! I have since learnt The Old Ship hotel is dog friendly which I believe can add certain challenges. Although the situation was dealt with promptly we were left without accommodation at very short notice. As many hotels in Brighton were already fully booked, we had to frantically search for an alternative. The only room we could find was significantly more expensive. The unexpected disruption delayed us considerably, which meant we arrived at our engagement more than an hour late.

Easy check in, nice big airy room. Staff were polite and helpful. Would definitely stay here again.

Great location lovely room comfortable beds great breakfast great value for money

The property is going through a major renovation. Most of the building is closed off. The temporary dining/breakfast room is a dilapidated old room at the back of the hotel with peeling paint. The whole building is tired, run down, peeling paint and wallpaper throughout. If you just need a bed in Brighton this hotel is fine (staff are lovely) but if you wanted a nice hotel stay then avoid until the renovation is complete, it was grossly overpriced considering the state of the place,
