This hotel was good-hearted and the food was Japanese artistry. It is an older property and has a very “mountain lodge” kind of feel.
The food was interesting but challenging for an unadventurous North American eater. It goes well beyond sushi to escargot and tiny octopi (squids?) over cucumber and a miso sauce. I was impressed with the look of this but I am weak on seafood and so it wasn’t that easy to eat. I expect that it is very seasonal and probably changes to make sure the food is the freshest.
The hotel itself is very high up the mountain, with a few walking trails nearby but no other. The hotsprings older facilities but again, overall very nice.
It is very close to the bus stop, where the bus comes often from Hakone Yumoto station to Lake Ashinoko and back so that is convenient.

Kamangha-mangha It was quite a journey from the station to the ryokan. Well worth it. Elaborate Japanese dinner and breakfast. Outdoor onsen. The new part of the lodge is 80 years old. It has been on this spot for 300 years. Quick bus ride to Lake Ashi next morning.

Magandang The dinner alone gets a lot of points. Easily some of the best food I have ever had at a ryokan.
The Men’s Onsen is a bit small outdoors. It was difficult to get my large western body (5’10”, 185lb) in the outdoor pool. The indoor pool was nice.
The biggest problem is the old wooden floors. Upstairs neighbors had kids and I got virtually no rest. The tranquil atmosphere of autumn in the mountains of Japan was disturbed by little giants trampling overhead.
Overall, great place, but I hope you get lucky with who stays above you.

Magandang The hotel is nice however the access to its remote location is terrible during winter or early spring when snowing. The only public bus to this Ryokan stopped operating. We had to take very expensive taxi (>8000yen) to reach this place. getting out of it on next day is even harder as there is no taxi coming to this Ryokan and the hotel staff asked us to walk 40mins to the nearest train station! It was still snowing that time and we had 3 kids with us! It is not possible for us to walk this far with big luggage’s as well. Luckily we finally able to get he Hotel staff to send us to the train station in his own car. Really thanks to the 2 young men tnb he didn’t front desk.
front desk can’t speakers mich English as well...

Kamangha-mangha This was my first time staying at an onsen ryokan, but it was much better than expected. The staff was friendly, helpful, and professional. The room was roomier than what I imagined, but I guess I was staying at a place meant for two people by myself. Dinner was excellent, and the breakfast buffet was great too. Dinner was fully Japanese while the breakfast was continental with a heavy Japanese slant. The onsens were great. I'd recommend using the bath in the early afternoon or the early morning before people start arriving if you are not comfortable with stares. The outside bath was a bit small but charming. The only bad thing I can say about this place was the fact that it's a bit old, but that's to be expected from some place that's more than 300 years old. It was very clean though.
Will stay again, next time with another person to play table tennis with.

Kamangha-mangha Located just outside the main Hakone area (10 mins by bus from Moto-Hakone), the ryokan is located in a small residential village without any other touristy developments around it. Thus it was surprising to find such a well-developed ryokan, that can cater to large crowds, rather than the usually smaller minshuku, in such an area.
Facilities were well developed, with an indoor garden, 2 distinct baths, a small souvenir shop and basically everything you should and would expect from a ryokan. Place was clean and spacious as well.
Food too was great. Dinner was kaiseki style with dishes that are visibly Japanese, yet something I have not eaten anywhere else before. Breakfast was a Japanese/Western-style buffet that had a very good range of items.

Property is a bit old and badly needs a renovation. The onsen is dated and gives a not so clean feeling.

Mas mababa sa karaniwan Was okay. The rooms are spacious. Positive is the quietness and less amount of people. The food was great.
There were major issues with the dinner.
Hotel staff and service were wonderful and friendly however which went a long way.
