Overall, I was quite disappointed with my stay. The standout positive was the staff. Every member of the team I interacted with was excellent—friendly, genuinely happy to help, and a real credit to the hotel. They made the experience much more enjoyable. Unfortunately, the check-in process got things off to a poor start. There are three reception counters, and I stood at one for around five minutes without anyone acknowledging me or asking if I needed assistance. I then joined the wrong counter and ended up waiting another 15 minutes before someone was able to help. The rooms are looking very tired and in need of refurbishment. The television felt extremely dated, as though it hadn’t been updated for many years. The biggest issue, however, was the hot water in the bathroom. It regularly took between five and ten minutes to heat up, which was frustrating and not what I’d expect from a hotel of this standard. I was also disappointed with the room service. The food quality wasn’t particularly good, especially when compared with the hotel’s sister restaurant. This hotel has so much potential. It’s in a fantastic location, and the exterior of the building is beautiful. With some investment in modernising the rooms and improving a few operational details, it could be an excellent place to stay. Despite my disappointment overall, I do want to reiterate that the staff were outstanding and were by far the highlight of my visit

Room was very clean and breakfast was great with many options for Asian and western food. Staff was nice.

Excellent staff, very friendly, awesome breakfast, great facilities, close distance to shops and food for families.

We stayed there for 3 weeks and we had a great time. Great foods, buffet or non-buffet at the hotel, friendly and helpful staffs, clean. Its located within walking distance to major shopping malls, Gurney Plaza, Gurney Paragon, hawker stalls. Plan to stay here again on our next trip.

Good location and great hotel.

We have stayed at Gurney Bay Hotel, at least four times. Each time, I can recognize the helpful and extremely friendly staff. From the receptionist, the porter, the cleaner, the wait staff, everyone was incredibly kind and attentive. The one aspect I was a bit disappointed was that Gurney Bay no longer offered massage services on the 2nd floor of the premises. I assume it due to lack of interests. But it's a minor issue. Even though it's quite an 'old' hotel, established in 1997, it is so well maintained, with clean carpets, beds, and bathrooms. You can see the amazing history in the hotel. I genuinely hope the hotel continues to operate for another 30years a more. We will definitely be back to Gurney Bay Hotel on our next visit to Penang

Clean room. Nice view. Great breakfast. Not super modern but great for the price.

Great value hotel in a central area - with helpful and friendly staff. This one is my goto in Penang.
