It’s an absolute must-try! The whole cruise takes about 30 minutes. We recommend hiking up the mountain first and then taking the cruise, if you’re in good physical shape! Ticket collection is super easy: bring your original valid identification documents to the **Ticket Office at Wuyou Temple Wharf** → head to the **Online Booking Pick-up Window** to collect your physical cruise ticket, then proceed to Wuyou Temple Wharf to board the ship. The same wharf is used for both boarding and disembarking.
Timing and Crowds • The Off-Peak Advantage: Visiting three weeks after the Chinese New Year was a brilliant move. The weather was pleasant, and the crowds were thin enough to enjoy the walk without feeling rushed or "squeezed" on the narrow staircases. • The "Before Noon" Rule: I highly suggest starting your climb before noon. The light is better for photos, and you beat the heavier midday heat and the tour groups that tend to arrive later. Important Tips for Travelers • Stamina Check: Make sure to do some cardio or leg workouts in the weeks leading up to your trip! The stairs are steep and numerous; you will definitely need some stamina to reach the top comfortably. • Budgeting for Extras: Keep in mind that viewing the 3,000+ Buddha statues in the surrounding Oriental Buddha Park requires a separate entry ticket. It’s worth it if you have the time, but factor that into your budget and schedule.
• Book Ahead: Buy them in advance, or you might find yourself disappointed and ticketless at the dock. • The Perfect Sequence: I highly recommend climbing the mountain first to see the Buddha up close, then taking the boat afterward. Seeing it from both perspectives (looking down from the hair and looking up from the water) is the only way to truly experience it. Where to Stand (and Where to Avoid) • Skip the Top Floor: While it sounds tempting, the top deck is often overcrowded. • Avoid the "Photo Pros": Some photographers on the top deck can be quite selfish; they tend to block the best vantage points just to do business with their customers. It can be frustrating if you just want to enjoy the view. • The Pro Move: Stay at the side of the boat. It is much less crowded than the top floor or the main dock area, and you still get a fantastic, unobstructed view of the Buddha without the elbowing.
Easy to redeem the ferry ticket at tourist center (near entrance). The queue for the ferry will take sometime as queue number will be given to board the ferry by batches. Manage to see the majestic Giant Buddha board ferry :)
Sharing some important information to those booking in future. Take Didi and drop off at south tourist centre not at the wuyou temple drop off point otherwise you will waste 20 yuan for tricycle ride which was the mistake we did. Once you drop off at south tourist centre, you need to redeem physical ticket. Once you get physical ticket walk out and head towards the wuyou boat pier. There is a small bus that will bring u there short distance. Walk down and scan before boadsing the boat. Suggest go upper deck to get good photo and video of the leshan buddha.
Visiting the Leshan Giant Buddha was an unforgettable experience. When I saw the statue in person, I felt amazed by its huge size and peaceful appearance. Standing at the foot of the Buddha made me realize how great and powerful it is. Although walking down and up the steps was tiring, the view of the Giant Buddha made it all worthwhile. Surrounded by green mountains and the river, I felt calm and relaxed during the visit. This trip helped me understand the wisdom and hard work of the people in the past. The Leshan Giant Buddha is not only a famous tourist attraction, but also a place that brings peace and respect for history.
We bought both the entrance ticket and the boat trip. It seems we could’ve just bought the boat ride and entered at Wuyou wharf (note not Wayou as stated in tickets). However, glad we had the opportunity to hike through the park and see the Buddha on foot. From the Buddha to the wharf requires some steep uphill climbing on steps. The ferry ride was shorter than advertised but plenty time to view and take pictures and wouldn’t have wanted to stay longer.
