This is the second time we’ve stayed at the Occidental hotel. The first time, the room was small but decent and we had a good stay. This time we were placed in a larger room at the front of the hotel. The shower had no hot water, there was one spare power point to charge all our phones, the windows didn’t close which meant night time happenings outside felt like they were right in our room. No sleep due to car horns, aggressive yelling and police sirens. Unfortunately this will be the last time we stay. If we were guaranteed a room away from the front of the hotel we would consider it due to the convenience to Wynyard station as we couldn’t fault our first stay

Lovely hotel to stay in. Was quite lively downstairs but we heard nothing from our room. We took our two teens and honestly no dramas staying above the pub with them. Had a few drinks in the bar and the staff were lovely. Wish we hadn’t had so much planned as the bistro and restaurant menus looked lovely. We picked an ensuite room which was best for us but honestly the shared bathrooms we had a look at and they were absolutely fine too so didn’t even need the ensuite. Hope to visit again soon, thanks all for a lovely, hassle-free stay!

Room was clean with all amenities. Staff went out of their way to help. Accommodation was close to ship port.

Beds were ok. No teaspoons provided at tea and coffee station, no milk for tea and coffee, 1 water glass for a booking of 3, clean towels provided with black grease on them, rats living in the wall behind bed head.

So... location was great... and price was good.... BUT.... So when we got there , the bar downstairs was on completely packed... crazy packed.... And honestly , it was that way every afternoon.... So it was a little difficult to get checked in , get access to the room. And on\nCe , we got to the room , the very first thing we saw were bugs... We decided to stay and that night.It was very noisy. Outside street noise. And we found that One of the mattresses on the beds was just springs... Very uncomfortable. The bathrooms are shared space, so a little gross... Hand overall the property was just very worn... It was so bad that we left after the first night , just checked out and left and Ten thousand somewhere else to stay for the second night. If you're traveling on a budget at aren't too worried about clean and quiet, The location is great.

Excellent location. Check-in easy. Room very basic but tea/coffee, fridge and microwave good inclusions. Share bathroom was a nice surprise: modern and completely private room. Noise from Level 2 function centre a problem for guests on Level 3. Hot water in rooms and showers took forever to reach the taps. A basic budget older style hotel room that has had a makeover. Good for singles. Suggest couples would be best in a room next level up from double. Some rooms were larger with double and one single bed - worth the extra dollars for more space.

Room was clean and comfortable. Bistro was very good.
