Hotel was spendy but great for our 4 day stay. Junior suite was large & immaculate. Separate bedroom (king bed/window seat/TV/closet). Living area had sofa bed w/ chaise, window seat, desk, tv, mini fridge, coffee, large closet. Windows to roof/walls, but nice natural light (sheers + light-blocking curtains). Large bathroom is short on counter space, crowded for 2 women getting ready. Good water pressure. Nice shampoo/body wash/ conditioner, ample towels/washcloths/q-tips etc. Sofa bed frame had a broken rivet that made it hard to unfold, so front desk offered to move us immediately, but my teen likes sleeping on the couch, so we stayed put.  Wasn't expecting daily housekeeping, but room was refreshed daily, despite our mess. I'd read noise complaints re: the train, but didn't hear it--or anything else--the whole stay, and I'm a light sleeper. We were in an inside room, 5th floor, so ymmv. Staff was helpful & polite. Bartender made lovely mocktails for my daughter (I had beer--mostly good but boring local IPAs + standard domestics). No ice machine, but they'll bring it up.  Location is great, few blocks from Art Institute. Also walked to First Lady, Medieval Torture Museum, Water Taxi to Chinatown, even Shedd Aquarium via Lakefront Trail (that was more of a hike, brisk half-hour).  Several metro lines w/in a few blocks were easy to access & use. Target on the block, many places to eat (though many do close early). Union station is walkable if you pack light.

When you walk into the lobby, you are wowed, it’s beautiful. Then you walk up to the desk only to be checked in by an extremely rude person. If that isn’t bad enough, you go up to your room to discover the shower is filthy, the fan in the bathroom does not work and the wallpaper is moldy. The furniture is broken down and extremely dated. The vent in the bedroom is covered with either black mold or just dirt from never being cleaned. There are no ice machines on the floors. You have to take your bucket down to the bar in the lobby. The room smelled musty and smoky. If you don’t mind all that, it is located in a great area to walk to museums and shopping.

The bed was very comfortable, staff helpful, location was perfect. Appreciated good coffee in the lobby.

Amazing location- can’t be beat! Hotel staff was so nice, friendly and courteous. Beverly is the best! Older historic property, but would definitely recommend!

I was in town for a single night—to see Rush at the United Center on their Fifty Something tour—and the Silversmith was a straight-shot single-bus-ride option that would make getting in and out of the concert easier than my usual hotel go-to (the charmingly dated Congress Hotel). The Silversmith is lovely, though be careful about opting for a room that faces away from the train—my third-floor room provided a view of a dirty rooftop surrounded by three walls of building and daylight that was stories above me. The room was more than spacious enough, the shower pressure adequate, and the bed comfortable; however, several TV channels did not work. I appreciated the free drink coupon, but did not appreciate getting surprised at check-in with the fact that I'd be paying a $30-plus preservation fee upon checkout. That more than ate up whatever savings the Silversmith's nightly rate bested other hotels. Keep that in mind when calculating your total nightly cost.

Staff were extremely nice. Bathroom had several long black hairs on the floor. Definitely not mine. The biggest issue was that I thought I had paid in full ,but then at the property I was told I had to pay a mandatory $30 restoration fee for the building. I couldn't find that information anywhere in the fine print and I wasn't happy about it.

The staff was amazing. Beverly at the front desk and Enrique at the valet stand were particularly helpful and friendly.

The room was very large and quiet. The staff was amazing- helpful and kind. Lovely little bar and amazing morning coffee.

A pleasant and helpful staff. Centrally located boutique hotel. Nice bar/restaurant with good food and drink. Comfortable room and bed with all modern conveniences.
