We had ex exceptional time. My husband and I (in our later 30s shhhh lol) We were told that we’d be part of the older crowd there, this, and that as if we shouldn’t be there before we even came but I’m SO glad we did. It was amazing. The breakfast included option was amazing. All staff were AMAZING!! Initially I booked the private Jungle Room which with its esthetic would have had me… unfortunately… I’m someone that HAS to have a TV in the background to sleep.its a trauma response sorry yall, and our WOULD NOT get hot. The moment i was able to get through my shower and go talk to them, they immediately moved us to a private beach side which was soooooo much better IMO. The street noise was minimal and the views incredible. I wish I could have just stayed. 6 days wasn’t enough for me exploring this little island, and the Mayan Monkey was incredible. Thank You for an amazing first out of my home experience.

Although the Jungle room was very pretty the smell was just too much at times coming from the outside. If the humidifier needed a change the smell would wake u up out your sleep.

As a solo female traveler, I had an amazing stay at Mayan Monkey Isla Mujeres. I booked a private room, which gave me the perfect balance of comfort, privacy, and the fun social atmosphere the hostel is known for. My room was clean, comfortable, and had everything I needed after a day of exploring the island. The property itself was well-maintained, and the staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. I always felt safe during my stay, which made traveling alone even more enjoyable. One of my favorite things about staying here was how easy it was to meet other travelers. Whether hanging out by the pool, relaxing on the beach, or joining the hostel’s activities, there were plenty of opportunities to connect with people from all over the world. The beachfront location is beautiful, and the vibe is fun without feeling overwhelming. If you’re traveling solo but still want your own space, I highly recommend booking one of the private rooms. It was the perfect combination of privacy, comfort, and a great social experience. I would absolutely stay here again on my next trip to Isla Mujeres!

My girlfriend booked Mayan Monkey because the photos screamed “luxury influencers sipping cocktails.” Reality screamed… something else. Our first room had door and window gaps over an inch wide—big enough that we Googled whether Isla Mujeres has tarantulas. The locked sliding glass door could also simply be pulled open. Maintenance assured us, “It’s a safe area.” I’d still prefer the lock to participate. Our second room fixed the security issue but introduced a toilet that barely flushed. After a couple maintenance visits, we earned honorary plumbing licenses. Unfortunately, my girlfriend also battled Montezuma’s Revenge, so our new skills got plenty of practice. The gorgeous soaking tub looked amazing online. Filling it with lukewarm water was like watching a geriatric man with an enlarged prostate pee at 3 a.m. We would’ve retired before it filled. Food was okay but overpriced. Local restaurants were much better. No coffee refills—a bold choice. The décor is peak Instagram: crochet lampshades hanging inside the shower. Stylish? Sure. Confidence-inspiring? Less so. We also got colored bracelets nobody ever referenced. Our theory? Secret swinger identifiers. The beach is beautiful, though seaweed limited swimming. Bring bug spray. Expect loud music all day, no mini-fridge, and no in-room coffee. Overall, definitely a once-in-a-lifetime stay. Because once was enough.

The service, cocktails, and location keep me coming back! Love the Mayan Monkey!

I truly enjoyed my stay. The hotel is clean and well decorated. The activities to mingle With the other guests are an additional plus. I’ll be back soon.

I got upgraded to a beach front room, and loved it. My only negative, was the loud DJ. Thankfully he ended his set early enough, for some sleep. But he might as well have set camp, in my room. If you aren’t in party mode? keep the jungle room!

Our experience at Mayan Monkey Isla Mujeres was disappointing. We were told check-in started at 3:00 PM, so we arrived at that time. Unfortunately, the lobby clerk was rude and unhelpful during the check-in process. We had specifically booked a Jungle Private Room with Terrace, but staff attempted to place us in a standard room while claiming it was an upgrade. It was not the room category we reserved. The poor communication and the attempt to downgrade our reservation left a very negative first impression. Because of this experience, we decided to leave and check into a different resort instead. The one positive aspect was the bar area staff. They provided excellent service and were friendly and attentive throughout our brief stay. Based on our experience, I recommend confirming your room type before arrival and verifying that you receive exactly what you booked.
