Seikoro Ryokan

This ryokan is really special. We had an amazing first night in Kyoto. Everything from the service to the food was top notch. Our attendant was very kind and helpful. The dinner was so beautiful and well presented. I felt so relaxed spending time here. The pictures don’t do it full justice- it is really beautiful. If you are looking for a traditional Japanese inn experience away from the touristy insanity- this is the spot.

We only stayed one night because of the price but we had a nice, pleasant stay. It was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan. The staff was professional and welcoming. The room was authentic and clean with tatami beds (comfortable), I also enjoyed the Japanese breakfast and the public bath ( I was the only one there). I recommend this place if the buget permits.

The breakfast was great - Japanese and western options both available. The staff was truly wonderful, greeting us with tea when we returned in the evening. The location was convenient to transit. I would definitely stay here again.

PROS: I stayed 5 nights at this ryokan. The staff was nice and attentive, especially my attendant Tomoko and manager Haruka were kind and helpful. The location of this ryokan is good. Breakfast was good and sufficient. CONS: Before you can enter this ryokan, you have to remove your shoes and put on their slippers to walk to your room. These are not disposable slippers, and these are used by all guests. I did not like sharing the slippers with other guests, as this is very unhygienic, which could potentially spread a foot disease from guest to guest. This ryokan charges a lot of money to stay there, so they should offer a disposable pair of slippers to every guest. You also have to change to another pair of their slippers when you enter the toilet room. Again, it felt unhygienic and uncomfortable. I had a Kaiseki dinner on my last evening there, which was good but not great for the value. It is very expensive (starting at 19,800 yen per person and up) and it is nothing special, so I would not recommend it. It is not worth it. You can have a better dinner and for less money at a nearby restaurant. At my check-out, I expected to pay for my Kaiseki dinner, because I already paid for my 5 nights including the tax at the time of booking with Expedia. Unfortunately, I was badly surprised and required to pay additional 4,000 yen per night for some extra city tax. Thus, I had to pay extra 20,000 yen for my 5 nights stay. This place is too expensive! Would NOT recommend.

Outstanding service and overall experience. Staying at Seikoro was a highlight of our trip.

This was a great experience enjoying a traditional Ryokan. The room was spacious and nice, the baths clean and comfortable and the food and service impeccable.
