Ambergris Sunset Hotel

First time in Belize and wanted to experience San Pedro but staying at Ambergris Sunset Hotel killed it for me. I booked a standard room but on checkin the room was terrible. Wife was horrified. Sheets and room smelled musky, the door did not even have a standard door knob, it was a latch and a dead bolt on a wooden ply door!!!! Come on!!! Large gaps in the doorway when closed, and with the pool just outside you really down have privacy. It really was a terrible room in my opinion.I checked the front deck and I was told I selected the budget room. If that is the definition of budget, please take note. It really was a terrible room option. I asked for an upgrade which they did but the upgraded rooms also was not to what I expected. My feedback to Ambergris Sunset hotel is to do better with the quality of the rooms. I understand a budget option may be necasary for certain traveler but that what I experienced was way below what I expected. There were larger family rooms that probably was better I did not get the see because they were not available but please do not select the budget or standard option. Ambergris you killed my experience in San Pedro. Going to Caye Caulker after hoping for a better experience there.

Room was clean. Location is perfect. Quiet neighborhood but within walking distance to shops, restaurants, beach. Staff friendly and helpful. Great sunset view from the rooftop.

Overall, great stay. For the price, it had everything we needed. The place was very clean though so updating to the building is needed. It is about a 2 minute walk off the main drag though it is quiet. I would recommend someone to stay - very diverse group and crowd staying though everyone friendly.

Room was very clean, easy check in. Air conditioner worked great which is really important in San Pedro if you aren’t used to the temperature. Pool was really nice to cool off in. Miguel the owner is very kind and upgraded my room for free as well because he had some open rooms. WiFi is a little spotty- maybe not the place to stay if you need to work or video chat. I think the value was excellent and really enjoyed the location. Would absolutely stay here again.

The hotel is very small but the room was clean and functional. Air conditioning worked great, bathroom looked like it needed an upgrade . There was no one at the office when I arrived but the manager arrived shortly after. The pool is very small , more like a large jacuzzi . Location is downtown, so if you like a very busy area this will suite you

Great air con, clean rooms, hot water, and a great location, especially if you like watching sunset.
