Average hotel but nice and helpful stuff.
Enough for 1-2 day stay.
Reasonable walking distance to Shimla center (keep in mind to use the 50 m away from hotel inclining walking path to reach the Mall Road. do not go under tunel it is longer)
The biggest disadvantage was lack of possibility of paying with international credit card.

We were happy with our stay at hotel Surya
They are reburbishing rooms at present, to a high standard
Our room had not been renovated, but had stunning mountain views
Indian breakfast was delicious

I stayed in hotel from 7th to 10th Nov 2016. No heater was provided in the room. We couldn't control the temperature of aircon. During night it was too cold.
Water in basin & shower was very very cold. As informed by the hotel, hot water will be for use from 7am to 10pm but sometimes it took too long to get hot hot. Wastage of time for waiting for hot water. Must keep water running to get hot water, therefore wasting water too.
Hotel provided extra blanket upon request.
Wifi was not working in the room and in lobby too.
Hotel food gud. Value for money.

The hotel seems good for the price.service also was prompt.all in all a nice cozy place for a couple of days to stay. Its a bit far off from the mall rd and requires a lot of stair climbing.

If you are booking this hotel online the you must Confirm your booking from hotel also. otherwise you may not get your room as per your booking. one more thing this hotel has some old rooms. try to avoid those rooms because this hotel has many new rooms available in same rate.Thanks
