Great hotel,centrally located great breakfast, smallish rooms but comfortable, good bar selection.

As expected the hotel was very quirky being themed solely on Guy Fawkes. Our bedroom and the dining room were excellent. Only problem in room was inconsistent hot water. It was too hot or cold! The speciality steak and ale pie was delicious!!

It was a stay for my b'day and I'd always wanted to stay here, and it was cool staying in such an old building. The bed was very comfy. The four poster room I found to be very dark, but did add to the experience. The tap on the sink was very loose and there was a hole in the wall by the toilet and some brown spots on the toilet seat which wasn't great. For the price I would've expected better.

Staff were highly accommodating, with great access to all the city's highlights!

- There was only 1 mug in the room. This was easily solvable, but for the fact that we did not spot it until we returned to the inn, which was after 11pm. I'm not going to call someone in at 11pm just to get a mug from downstairs. This really ought to have been spotted when the room was cleaned and checked before our arrival. - Speaking of the room checking, we were missing THREE lightbulbs. Three. What procedures are followed between check-out and check-in? - ⁠The ceiling is at points 5 feet off the ground. I understand this is done in the name of making the room quirky, and an experience, but had we been warned about this beforehand, we would not have booked the room. Both my fiancee and I are of above average height and bumped our heads badly in the night. - Nothing could be done about the heat, but I am disappointed that there was only one fan in the room. There was no way of positioning it such that both of us could feel it. - ⁠The foulest smell imaginable in the corridor between the bedroom and the lounge. We are both genuinely concerned we have inhaled some black mould. - ⁠The cold water tap ran hot for at least a minute before it resembled something drinkable. there was no bottled water supplied. - ⁠Poor offering of toiletries. For a suite, we would expect there to be a little more than just a bottle of shampoo/body wash. - ⁠The room is missing things which are clearly advertised on the page. - We were not given the chance to explain this to staff on check-out.

Lovely old hotel just across from York Minster. I don’t think there is a straight wall or floor anywhere in the building which really adds to its charm. We ate both dinner and breakfast both of which were excellent.

Lovely 'secret' gardens for lounging with a drink. Wonderful food. Right in town. Taxi stand just around the corner (if you need the train station). Tuesday evening (7:00-9:00) is bell ringing practice at the York Minster so be aware of that. It's louder towards the back so if your stay includes a Tuesday night, and this would bother you, ask for a room towards the front. Our room had caution signs stating the hot water was *HOT*. Sadly, we could not regulate the shower at all and it was just tooooo hot to use. Room 5. You'd think something like that would be fixed instead of putting up warning signs. LOL Was a fun destination overall.

Was an OK stay in the centre of York right next the Minster, place was a little tired and the bed only a double in the four poster room. However, the room is right next to the street so very noisy even for a Wednesday evening until 2am, with bins being emptied at 4am and people leaving rooms at 6am meant a very unpleasant night. As a plus the pub underneath the hotel is nice with 3 beer gardens and a nice atmosphere but closes and kicks you out at exactly 11pm even for residents! Bathroom was OK and cleanish, needs a depth scrub and removal of lime and shower was not very powerful and leaking from the pipe... just needs more attention., In summary for the £220 per night not very impressed !

I could not have been more centrally located. It is an old place, so floors slope and doorways are low. But after a few weeks in these parts, I know to look. Dinner was lovely; the pie superb. And I was grateful they minded my luggage after checkout since my train departure was later in the day.
