Maya Ubud is a beautiful resort set within truly exceptional grounds. The lush surroundings are undoubtedly the standout feature of this expansive property and create a wonderfully peaceful atmosphere.
The rooms are comfortable and well appointed. However, as a family of four we found the room space quite limited, and the bathrooms are beginning to feel dated and could benefit from some modernisation.
Where we felt the resort fell short was the level of service, which unfortunately was inconsistent across several areas of the hotel.
During our stay, only one restaurant was open for dinner. We dined there one evening and, although the food was enjoyable, the service was extremely slow. We waited around 45 minutes before anyone took our order, and it took almost two and a half hours for our main course and dessert to be served.
We experienced similar issues at breakfast, where our hot drinks only arrived after we had finished eating, despite reminding the staff twice.
The pool facilities were lovely, but service there was also lacking. We had to find an attendant to request towels and then set up our loungers ourselves.
Throughout this trip we stayed at several other hotels, all of which consistently delivered warm, attentive and proactive service. Unfortunately, Maya Ubud did not meet the same standard, which was disappointing given the quality of the resort itself.
