The room was spotless and was more like a small apartment. You could tell the staff paid attention to details and it was impressive. There is a rooftop bar area. It’s small, but the views are spectacular- grab a drink on the first floor and head up there. You need to pick a slot for breakfast. We chose 0730- they weren’t 100% set up yet, but it was fine. We weren’t rushed and there was a good selection. Re the bed… I found the bed comfortable but the pillows a little too big. We had trouble w the WiFi near the bed but it was perfect near the couch and kitchenette. Now… I’ll be honest- booking this place was a mistake… a literal mistake… we were looking for a place between Porto and Lisbon and I had decided on a different city, but I failed to close the tab on browser. We decided what the heck… well… this place is a gem. We loved Coimbra. We loved the hotel and the staff was amazing. I have no doubt we will be back and for a longer stay next time.

This hotel is a few steps from the Coimbra University! Very well located. Breakfast was delicious with many options. They have a restaurante and also a terrace. Staff were friendly and very attentive. They have some spots for parking. Beautiful hotel. We would definitely come back!

If you are going to Coimbra to see the university and its ancient library, you couldn't ask for a better place to stay. Sapientia is across a small street from the entrance to the library and a few steps from the university. It's in the heart of the wonderful, old historic area of Coimbra. Our room was as large as an apartment and quite comfortable. Sapientia is built right on top of a 16th century cistern that you can see below the glass floor. One wall of the breakfast room/restaurant is part of an ancient wall belonging to the buildings that once stood there. It's very cool. My only complaint about the hotel is the breakfast. It was strange. They have eggs, for example, but they are cold. Not cold as in 'cooled off' but actually ice cold. Same with the pancakes. Oddly, we had dinner in the same space as the breakfast, and it was excellent. So one small complaint about an otherwise great place.

An astonishing value for the price: our room was huge, filled with natural light from big windows on two sides, and equipped with a spacious living/dining room with a cooktop, crockery and glassware, and a sleep sofa. Guests are offered a complementary glass of wine before supper: you can take it up to a rooftop patio or out to the garden. The cooks are excellent and breakfast is bountiful. The hotel is remarkably quiet and peaceful despite being just a hundred meters from the University. In keeping with the city and the name of the hotel (Learning), I think each room honors a different Portuguese author. There are some fun surprises around this if you dine at the hotel. The concierge referred us to a fabulous venue to hear Fado in the Coimbra tradition.

The breakfast wasn't good at all

Awesome boutique hotel next to the University of Coimbra. The decor followed the theme of literature and knowledge. The courtyard was great. Nice restaurant and breakfast buffet. Only note is that the rooms have 3 steps up from the sitting area to the bed, so not for the mobility impaired. Rooms are spacious, have a kitchenette in the room, and awesome views of the city.

Excellent location, but carefully heed the instructions on parking. Clean and quiet boutique type rooms. Good for a one or two night stay. Reasonable included breakfast and the restaurant is very good for a hotel in this class. Helpful and friendly staff.
