Walking through the front door in the evening was like a blast back to the 60s. Dark, gloomy and harsh. Receptionist was professional. The room was unacceptable. Very strong odor of cigarette smoke, dark, gloomy, outdated. I didn’t feel comfortable setting my luggage on the floor. My immediate thought was I need to find another hotel. Did not dare to unpack or touch anything in the room. Booked another hotel in Shizuoka while having dinner at a nearby restaurant. Handed the key to the clerk and left.

Room was small and bathroom could only be described as a Japanese micro bathroom! However it served its purpose and a plus point was the parking was free, which is unusual in Japan, just remember that if you are over 1.7m to duck when entering the garage.
