The room was super comfortable and roomy. The soaking tub in the bathroom was amazing because you could have it hot all the time.
The food was delicious and beautifully presented.
You should note that some of the rooms are not close to the soaking pools or the restaurant. You have to go through a locked door to the street, walk for 5 minutes, enter another building for the soaking pool and restaurant.
This place has one small pool for soaking so if you're looking for an onsen experience it would not be here.

Great hotel to rest and relax in the middle of a hectic 2.5 week trip around Japan! Loved our little garden and outdoor onsen!

Exceptional one-of-a-kind stay. Every detail thought of. We stayed in the Annex room and was blown away. Soak in the history and energy at this magical place! Excellent restaurant as well.

Fantástico I had high expectations that were exceeded. The multi course meal designed to reflect the flavours and food from the area was exceptional. The room itself was very impressive too with a comfy bed and hot bath prepared for check in. Staff were very friendly and accomodating also. The surrounding area is full of unique craft shops and interesting places. Definitely have a night here at least in your travels

Such a one-of-a-kind experience in the most beautiful historic post town. Can’t recommend this modern ryokan enough!

BYAKU Narai feels less like a hotel and more like a pause in time. Set within lovingly restored Edo-era townhouses, it invites you to slow your breath and listen—to creaking wood, soft light, and the quiet rhythm of Narai-juku after the crowds fade. Nothing is excessive, nothing is missing; every detail exists with intention and restraint. As night falls and the street empties, the town glows gently, and you realize BYAKU isn’t trying to impress you—it’s asking you to stay present. A rare, soulful place that lingers long after you leave.
