Firstly, let me start by saying we were staying as a couple and didn’t realise it was the school holidays in south east Asia, so this definitely colours my review. The pool area looked amazing when we arrived, but the entire time we were there it was completely crowded with kids - who were having an amazing time and it’s definitely a great resort for families. For us, it was so noisy, overcrowded and you couldn’t get an alcoholic drink until 3pm… and even then, there never seemed to be anyone around in the lounge to serve drinks so you have to head over to Sigi’s. I promise I’m not usually a day drinker, but when I’m on holiday at a resort, a day time cocktail is part of holidaying. In good news, you can wander next door to the Rasa resort, which is way quieter and serves drinks with a smile. So my honest opinion - if you’re looking for family friendly, go to the Golden Sands; if you’re looking for relaxing couple-time, go to the Rasa.

Our welcome, check in, room and staff were excellent. The hotels pools, Adventure Zone and buffet breakfast was amazing. The outer hallways were a little worn down. The hallway on the 4th floor smelled like vomit or rotten milk was spilled on the carpet. The staff worked tirelessly to clean it up but the smell was still there. Towards the end of the trip water was leaking from the ceiling and a bucket was put on the ground in the hallway. It just needs some updating. However our room was fine. Nice cold air conditioning and clean. Wonderful ocean view balcony. Despite the small things I'd definitely stay here again!

The facility is very comprehensive, great for family retreat with pool, beach and gym ~ The location is perfect if you would like walk around to visit the night market : ) Definitely would recommend this hotel : )

Fantastic place always wanting to help you out all staff were wonderful

We had high hopes when we arrived at Shangri-la Golden Sands and the staff were nothing but polite, pleasant and helpful throughout our stay. However, we quickly noticed that our bathrooms weren’t the cleanest - there strands of hair everywhere and a slight smell of sewer. There were plumbing issues - which the hotel fixed upon request. The dinner buffet was very mediocre and somewhat disappointing- only because I associated Shangri-la with better buffet food.

Rooms are clean but very dated. The hotel is centrally located and within walking to local eateries and the night market. This is good as everything inside the hotel is very overpriced. I Breakfast was ok but not worth the money if not included in the room for free. The beach is eroded which is a shame. The pool so very nice. I previously stayed at the Hard Rock and found that to be better value for money.

Breakfast was very busy, floor Staff a bit chaotic and the place was dirty. The young staff at Sigi’s were just wonderful, friendly, so pleasant and accomodating but the older staff a bit rude-disappointing to see. Security on grounds were lovely as were the guys in Lobby.

Firstly, if you get a room that is not facing the pool beware where it faces. There is a mosque beside the hotel and they do have prayer calls 5 times a day, including 1 before bedtime and another at 6am. For those not used to it, it can be very jarring. Food is mediocre and expected for the price paid. Facilities are worn... I mean pretty old at this point. Overall we made do with what we had and my kid still enjoyed our little vacation. This place is due for a refresh but meanwhile, I wish them only the best. I would have given the hotel 3 stars, had they informed me about the possibility of being awoken at 6am.
