A step back in time for a few hours. Starting with the beautifully restored Gympie railway station, and Leonie who greeted us with our little card tickets, and boarding information. Once on board Ross, our train conductor, punched our tickets, then spent time chatting to all the passengers. The personal commentary was a highlight as the train wound it’s way thru the picturesque Mary Valley. A lot of work has gone into restoring the engines and carriages, they look great. Of course the steam engine was the ‘hero’ when it arrived, with kids of all ages smiling and rushing to take photos. The volunteers obviously love their trains, and it shows, everyone we encountered was clearly enjoying themselves. And they even sell Choo Choo Bars, I haven’t seen those for years! Oh, and keep an eye out for the locals waving at the passing train. This was a highlight of our holiday, & I’m still smiling.

Experience the magical historic steam train! Staff are very friendly and the cafe food was nice and delicious! Gympie station was so beautifully restored!

Amazing experience, well-planned, punctual timings, courteous staff, great food from the Rusty Rails Cafe, priceless really!
