As a first time visitor to Tokyo it is difficult to imagine how big the city is. One description describes it as having 5 ‘downtown’ districts. The Grand Nikko is in a man made entertainment/ chain restaurant area, 7 miles from Haneda airport and well served by train, boat and taxi services. The hotel lives up to its name ‘Grand’. It is spacious. Ordinary rooms are very clean and adequate in size, but premium, on floors 20-24, are that bit better. Service throughout are stay was excellent and even at breakfast rush hour- 07.00 - 08.00, when all the tour groups are circulating together, the staff manage queues well through a ticketing system and wait times are minimised in all 3 venues. Breakfast at 09.00 - no waiting. Fantastic views from the 30th floor restaurant, though there is a need to book to get a window table. Unfortunately the hotel is undergoing some re-furbishment and so did not present itself at its best, but that said, overall it was still excellent.
