Absolutely recommend staying here! the hotel was beautiful, the beds and pillows so so comfortable. The breakfast buffet was delicious and plentiful and the staff were so attentive, kind and helpful. Matera is a beautiful place to visit and quite special to be able to stay right in the centre. We had access to a little patio table and it allowed us to soak up the views of this historic UNESCO site as much as we wanted. Location is also great - made it very easy to swing by our room in between each activity of the day to refresh; very important with the heat in this town. We also tried out the baths - very relaxing and worth it. Make sure to call or email the hotel to book a timeslot for the baths - you don't get a discount if you book online, even if you are staying at the hotel.

Our room was tagged as "separate" on the Locanda San Martino website but it doesn't explain how "separate"!
To get to breakfast, we had to climb 2 stories of stone steps, walk 5 minutes to the main entrance, and walk down 2 flights. Returning meant repeating in reverse.
Anyone reserving a room marked "separate" should know what they are getting into.
