Such a unique property…truly a once in a lifetime experience staying in a cave hotel. If you want a 5 star hotel then look elsewhere; however, if you want charming, family-run old world charm, this is your place. The gentleman (and his dog) who ran the place were very kind and welcoming. The location was amazing with one of the best viewpoints of Matera steps outside of our door. Short walk to central square and restaurants/shops. We parked at a parking lot outside of ZTL and walked in (lots of stairs so be prepared)! Cave room was unique. Only thing (which was mentioned in prior reviews) is that room is a little damp (& sheets get a little damp) from the humid conditions of the cave, which we were prepared for & did not think was a huge problem. Great stay! And Matera is amazing!

Cave B&B. Right at the heart of old Matera city. Driving there is not possible, so either have a small luggage or be ready to drag the luggage through medieval streets. There’s a Maison or Casa Cava that is close to drive by to load and unload the luggages, but still hard to drive to. Just a heads up. The host speaks little English. Breakfast has a great selection and very fresh.

The bird droppings on courtyard tables which remained through the day and the next within clear eyesight of the proprietor said it all . The site is golden . The experience was not

It’s hard to find but the experience of staying there is worth the trouble. Walk there first in order to find it before you bring your luggage.

The staff was fabulous; both helpful and kind. We were unaware that caves are humid, which was our naivete. Breakfast was ample. Our cave was large and had lots of places to sit comfortably, inside and out. The only reason the stay was not 100% excellent was the humidity inside the cave despite running dehumidifiers and air conditioning. Having a sweet dog on premises was a bonus!

What an absolute dream stay! The apartment was so unique and quaint and charming! Federico was the kindest host! He was friendly, professional, helpful, and genuine. The room was SO quaint! Spacious. Plenty of amenities. Comfortable bed. Air conditioning was sufficient. We could walk everywhere we wanted to go. The breakfast in the morning was delicious and more than ample. I would absolutely stay at this residence again!

To be honest, we weren't sure what to expect. But after learning about the history of the city and what it has taken to come back is amazing! Having the experience of being able to stay in a "cave" was a something we will never forget. The property owners we very friendly and welcoming and we appreciate the work they have put into making it accessible to tourists.

This was an amazing experience sleeping in a cave! The staff were lovely and happy to help organise tours etc even replaced my tv ;) Great central position, lovely staff and a very unique holiday experience

The first room we had, had so much humidity that the sheets and comforter was damp. We did not sleep well at all. The next night we went to another hotel to get some sleep. The third night we were moved to another room which was fine. They were very nice about moving us.
