Nice hotel communal areas are lovely and well maintained, with a lot of more rural Japanese hotels they all seem to be partially renovated, communal areas always modernised and well maintained however bedrooms and bathrooms especially need updating. Breakfast buffet was ok not really much variety and always the same. Dinner buffet good and rotation of foods, we stayed 4 nights and on the 3rd + 4th night served a special plate by the chef as a gift for continuous stay. I would avoid visiting at weekends as very crowded and onsen and dining areas noisy and busy- staff very attentive especially waiting staff in dining hall took a shine to our baby girl. Onsen nice and clean and massage service also very good.

Everything is great

Good environment. It should include the public bath, however, we had to pay for the public hot tub( they call public bath).

We went in May, on top of hill, far from anything. Reception area is not grand, inside area is comfortable. Building & faculties are very old. Bowls and plates are stuck together in restaurants,

Beautiful onset, outstanding food, terrific service, large and comfortable rooms. We had a wonderful 3 night stay.

Absolutely beautiful property. Service was excellent. Dining offered many delicious options for both Eastern and Western palates.

Pluses: 1. The best thing about this hotel is the dinner buffet, included in the price. It was exceptional. There was a large variety of meat, seafood, vegetables, starches, and desserts. The grilled beef was fantastic. It was butter soft, and almost melted in your mouth. 2..The rooms are clean and spacious and have an understated elegant classic feeling typical of Japanese esthetics. Minuses: 1. Service here is mediocre. The staff seems like they’re just going through the motions, without a true spirit of omotenashi. 2. The bathroom felt very old (not classic), maybe dating to the 1980s. Turning one of the knobs in the bathroom sink provided no water at all — how can the maids not notice this and report it? Do they not clean the sink? 3. The room: desperately need blackout curtains, especially since the sun rises at 345am! It was so bright we could not sleep. Just awful. 4. We found a dirty pair of reading glasses someone had left behind on the nightstand. How can housekeeping miss this? Overall: This was probably once a phenomenal resort. It could be again, with some updating, better maintenance and better service. But in its current state, it’s mediocre and overpriced. Come for the dinner, not the room.
