Hotel Solarena Newport Beach, a Dazzler Select by Wyndham

The room served it's purpose. It was cheaper than most and right across the street from the beach which was excellent. There was a decently comfortable bed and AC which was also nice. The WIFI didn't work (which we told them twice and they did not do anything about), the TV wasn't connected, the duvet was only half filled with feathers, the soap dispenser didn't work, the towel hanger was torn out of the wall, the fridge froze all of our food with no way to adjust the temperature, and there was a $30/day parking fee we were unaware of (although that might be on us for not looking at the fine print). Overall, all of these things were small and we were still fully able to enjoy our stay in the area. If you are looking for somewhere cheap and near the beach and reasonably clean, this is an excellent choice. If you are looking for somewhere nice, it's probably not your best option.

We got 2 rooms, both dirty. Asked for the clean sheets and changed the beds ourselves. We were lucky our rooms did not face the big road, we would not be able to sleep for sure.

The staffs are friendly and helpful, we definitely will stay again.

The room was disgusting. The body wash and shampoo were almost completely used and also had no caps on them. The tissue box was reused and stuffed with paper. I never stayed in the room after entering and those were the first two things I noticed. For a hotel charging hundreds of dollars a night the least they can do it provide a new tissue box and fresh soap.

First room was dirty with dirt on the floor and bed. Second room had dirt on floor and greasy floor. I had to find the cleaning lady to come clean under the bed and there were food wrappers, balls of dust, food, and a huge screw. Fire alarm woke us up two nights during stay after which we decided to check out early. Staff is aware of the alarm issue and apparently the showers don’t have proper ventilation and frequently set off fire alarm. Too bad because the location was great.

Did not enjoy my stay here at all. Came back to the room late one of nights during my stay and to me and my partners surprise we had no running water. We were unable to wash hands, take a shower or flush toilet. We went downstairs to the front desk where no one was present and called a posted number. While waiting for someone to answer another guest came down to the lobby to complain of the same issue. A staff member answered and informed us that they were fixing a pipe and that the water was off and would be back on in 30 minutes. At no point were we notified as guests about water being shut off or that there was a broken pipe. After being without water for 1 hour and 30 minutes after being told it would be restored in 30 minutes it finally came back on. In the morning we came down to the lobby to see if we could get into contact with a manager to express our frustration. The staff member in lobby informed us that they could not provide a number or email to us, they could only take down my cell phone number and wait for the manager to call me. Obviously this never happened. Ultimately, I was very unsatisfied with my stay. Guests should have been informed of the water being shut off even if it was an unexpected occurrence. The water situation wasn’t the only bad experience we had. Sand on the floors when we checked in, hotel staff taking pictures of me on cell phone, and multiple fire alarms at 3am. Will not be back.

The room wasn’t dirty but the floor was sticky and a little dusty. Also my fan in the room didn’t work so we had to open the window. The traffic noise though is pretty bad! There is a main street right there so I mean they can’t really do anything about it but just in case anyone is a light sleeper. Heard ambulance and motorcycles pass. It’s a good price for a day or 2.

It was lovely! The pool was great! The first day staff said we could not borrow towels for the beach. The second day we saw a sign and staff said we could, which was very helpful. It’s a small hotel, some floors were noisy, ours was not thankfully. Very close to the beach. About a 20 min walk to Balboa or a 7 min uber. Vacancy coffee & Tide Pools (breakfast burritos) are walking distance and phenomenal! Definitely would stay again!

I loved that the room is near the beach.
