Note!!! - The main picture of the hotel (which appears to be of the property) on Expedia... is in fact about half a kilometre away and is of a public bath - not the property!!! Extremely misleading and needs to be removed. The bedrooms have no windows. The room was cleaned poorly. The buffet breakfast was poor and food not kept hot. Only one juice (hope you like carrots). Coffee is watered down. Coffee from coffee bar or breakfast area not allowed to be taken to your room. Extremely frustrating. Also... could not use the restaurant there unless booked prior to the stay. Shuttle bus to pick us up was 15 mins late (despite the hotel being a minute or two drive away). Also.. would only drop upu back at the bus atop at two set times on a morning. Any other time and you had to walk yourselves. Onsens were small for the amount of guests and frequently full. The outside onsen was only for females. The private onsen was $20 for an hour to use. Not sure why. Not a bad stay... but you aren't getting what is advertised.

We had a room with half board and enjoyed the 24 hr Natural hot spring within the hotel. Free shuttle to the bus station after check out was helpful as it snowed the night before

I love cold weather and snow, so that part of Northern Honshu was perfect for me. I also have family in the area to drive me to Zao, which is a lot easier than taking the bus! This hotel is clearly on the older side, but that really didn't detract from the whole experience, which was positive. The bath was relaxing and though it wasn't large, I never felt over crowded. The beds were comfortable~ sort of an amalgam of futon and boxspring. Though I wish they were on the tatami, it was nice that they were by the windows. I am pretty sure I've been in those particular onsen baths before, so I am wondering if this hotel has existed in the past under different ownership with a different name.

What a great Ryokan/Hotel. Right in the middle of the town and only 8-10 mins walk to ski lifts. Free pickup from the Zao Onsen Bus Stop to the Hotel through the Tourist Information office. Hotel also offers Limited free drop off to and from the ski lift area. Both Japanese and English spoken. Robert both at the front desk and in the restaurant area was a great help. traditional breakfast and dinners were also surprisingly included with our room. 24 hour Onsen available. There is also an outside Onsen but closed in winter due to the amount of snow. Free fast Wifi. Recommended stay.

Superb service, great food, and reasonable location. We were treated like rock-stars the whole time we were there, from check-in to check-out. It was really the little things that made our stay wonderful, like finding the snow and ice brushed/scraped off our van in the morning and having complimentary room service delivered the first night because we arrived after their dinner buffet had closed. Spacious room, too, especially by typical Japanese hotel standards. The hotel offered a traditional Japanese experience with such a warm and welcoming staff that there was no accompanying apprehension at making a cultural faux pas. For skiers/snowboarders, they have a convenient equipment storage/drying room and provide a shuttle to the lifts. We stayed for three nights and had breakfast and dinner included with our stay. Both meals were delicious, though after a few days there is quite a bit of repetition. Overall, definitely recommend for a winter ski destination.

Very helpful and friendly staff, in particular Shota Fujio (ever smiling), Yoshihashi, Takeuchi and Kato (as well as the intern lady from China). We were made to feel very welcome. Dinner was good (we had 3 and the main set was different each day). Indoor and outdoor onsen was alright.

Stayed for 2 nights in this relatively new ryokan with English-speaking front desk staffs. Complimentary shuttle service provided to and from Zao bus terminal, as well as ropeway. I will recommend this ryokan in Zao Onsen to those who wants to escape from the tourists crowd and its peaceful surrounding. Imagine sulphuric water with steam from the stream flowing around the area! Able to ski at nearby slopes is a bonus.

Front desk service not as accommodating, all except a young English speaking new joined staff. Whatever request One made at the counter is always faced with a ‘ i’m Sorry, I cannot help you, etc...’ including short shuttle transfers’
