Had a lovely stay in York. Had attic room in the old hotel which was nicely presented. No aircon but had a fan. Good sized room and ensuite but no hooks or anywhere to hang towels/clothes. And no room for cosmetics. Good breakfasts. Good location.

The older woman who checked us in was rather gruff, but the young girl that waited on us for breakfast was so sweet! The room was pretty, but the bathroom was crazy small. (We had to straddle the toilet to be able to open the shower door!!) The dining room and Secret Garden area made up for the small bedroom and narrow staircase.

We were in the attic room. People with any mobility problems would not be able to access this room. Stairs were very steep. Staff were very helpful with luggage etc but access cannot be improved.
Food was very good as was the service.

The Fat Badger is in a great location in the city center of York. We were able to walk anywhere in town. We were also able to walk to and from the train station, though that took about 15 minutes.
We arrived before we could check-in, and they were kind enough to bring our bags up to our room. However, they couldn't keep them after check-out, so we had to pay to leave them at the coffee shop across the street, as our train didn't leave until a couple of hours after check-out.
Not surprisingly, the room is small, but not unreasonably so for the location in a historic building. It was a relatively narrow set of stairs to get up to the room. The bathroom was down a little hallway and was a decent size, though the shower was a bit tight.
We didn't eat here, but we did have time to enjoy drinks out in their "secret garden". We were lucky enough to get some sun so that we could enjoy some time out there, with a view of the very top of the cathedral.
