Balcony and location

Old rooms, great gym and sauna. Food is okay, staff was great.

Truly enjoyed my stay here! The gym was so dreamy and my favorite amenity. The staff was very friendly and helpful, our room was very clean. My only complaint is the cheap toilet paper.

The hotel offers very limited amenities considering the price charged. What bothered me the most was the lack of transparency regarding the daily resort fee. Guests are charged nearly $60 per day regardless of whether they use the resort facilities or not. These mandatory fees were not communicated clearly during the booking process, and charging guests for services they do not use feels unfair. I believe hotels should be much more transparent about these additional costs so guests can make an informed decision before booking. Overall, I expected a much better experience from a hotel with Fairmont’s reputation.

I was very excited to stay at one of Santa Monica’s most famous hotels, but unfortunately, that excitement disappeared as soon as we arrived. We were only informed upon arrival that large parts of the hotel were temporarily inaccessible because filming was taking place. We were also told that the main restaurant would be closed for three days. These restrictions significantly affected our stay, and we were extremely disappointed that we had not been notified in advance. The atmosphere around the swimming pool was also unwelcoming. We felt uncomfortable while our six-year-old son was playing, even though he was behaving as a child normally would. Some guests were particularly rude, which made the experience even less enjoyable. On a positive note, the balcony was beautiful. Sitting there and enjoying the view with a bottle of wine was one of the highlights of our stay. Given the hotel’s reputation and the price we paid, we expected much better communication and a more welcoming experience for families.

The hotel is in a great location, but we found the hotel to be so so. We loved the pool and amenities but the rooms are tiny and run down. Bathroom is so small! They were shooting a movie when we arrived so most of the lobby was closed (they should have told people this ahead of time) so a big piece of the experience was closed a few days. I think the drink pricing is outrageous as well as the daily hotel fee. We ordered an aperol spritz and they charged us separately for the spritz part? so wild and sneaky!! The front lobby staff were very nice, but the food service team were kind of lacking. Not sure if we would return.

Maybe I should have expected it, but I found the food prices to be incredibly expensive for the quality of the food. A Cheeseburger was $30 on the menu, and when my bill came there was an additional $6 charge for the cheese, lol. Our room had a layer of old thick dust on everything from the lamps, lamp shades, window blinds, etc. Not what I was expecting for the money. The staff was great throughout however, very friendly and accommodating. $90+ valet per night is a clown show. Half of the lobby level was closed for movie filming during my stay and there were no consolations to guests.

I unfortunately have to give a two star review due to poor communication, hidden fees and unprofessional billing services. I say unfortunate because the hotel was great. The staff were kind and helpful and it was a beautiful stay. However, because of undisclosed fees and taxes, I would never stay at this hotel ever again and had I known before I would’ve never booked in the first place. As for the experience, it was nice. The pool was beautiful. Everything was very clean in the hotel room and outside of the hotel room. But the room we stayed in was pretty small and the bathroom was even smaller, which is what we did not expect. There was also a movie being filmed at the time of our stay so half of the lobby is blocked off, which gave us a less than stellar experience. Overall, I would not book again, and I do regret staying in this particular hotel.

Great location. Near beach, pier and many restaurants. Clean and comfortable linens, towels and robes. Very friendly staff. Quick check in and out.
