Our stay at Shiomachi Roya in Tomonoura was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan. I was impressed by the renovations done to turn this old merchant house into an inn. I liked the design and decor. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful. Because this particular house (Roya) has only 4 rooms to stay in, the staff are located at another sister inn literally just around the corner, one minute away. Everything you need is within walking distance in this small town. Staying here enhanced our experience of staying in this historical old port town. The location is beautiful and our visit to Sensui-jima (the island just off the coast) was a perfect half day walk/hike. The local cafes and restaurants that we visited were also great. I highly recommend visiting and staying at the Shiomachi Tomonoura.

Beautiful hotel, staff seemed a bit new and unsure of procedures but we had a room with a garden and it was absolutely gorgeous. Would definitely come back!

Everything was great! Staff was friendly & very helpful, accommodation was exactly what we wanted & food was great!

部屋は綺麗で、広く冬でも隙間風もなく暖かく申し分ありませんでした。 枕も布団も快適でした。 部屋のコーヒーメーカーもカプセル式で良かったです。 朝食も美味しかったです。 不満点は防音が今ひとつで、道路を車が走る音や隣の若者達が夜中の2時まで騒いでいたのが聞こえた事です。 総合的には良かったので今度は道路に面していない別の棟に泊まってみたいです。

古民家を改修した部屋で、設備は近代的だが古民家の部屋とよくマッチしている。

浴室の浴槽リモコンの説明をしてほしかった。湯量がマックスの設定になっていて、自動でお湯はりをしたら蓋から湯が溢れてきた。それと掛け布団シーツに汚れがついていたのに気づいて不快な思いをした。それ以外はとても良かったので残念。

Beautiful room, with comfortable beds. Food was excellent. Easy to walk around and explore temples and sites.

What a special experience! This is a glimpse of history with modern amenities and thoughtful staff. We had a triple room, which worked well for us as the sliding screens separated two sleeping areas. Breakfast was beautifully presented and delicious. Dinner options are very limited in the area, so consider reserving dinner at this property.

Beautiful place and wonderful staff.

This is an old merchant house that has been nicely remodeled as a hotel. It's smack in the middle of Tomonoura's historic renewal district. The room I had was spacious, comfortable, and nicely designed. This hotel requires some pre-planning: getting the shuttle bus from Fukuyama, making sure basic needs are met (no onsite staff, except at breakfast time). In my case, I was driven over to the hotel from the shuttle stop and given a thorough and friendly introduction to everything about the room, bath, etc. One thing to keep in mind is that many of the small restaurants in Tomonoura close early. The town itself is great--still a working fishing village--with many old vestiges of its port history.
